Hey

So there's loadsa of ya from around London on here, my mister is taking me to see Lion King on next saturday night, and i was looking for stuff we could do in the day and maybe sunday as well. I've seen all the main touristy bits now and he has and don't really know what else to do on the cheap. Maybe the zoo but I've been before and would rather spend 20quid doing something else if i'm honest. Any quirky cool hidden spots in central ish london?

Even better if there's any quite soppy romantic ideas, first time we've really been away together as a proper couple :)

safe and stuffz :)

My dad got me a book for my birthday called 'Secret London: An unusual guide' which has all sorts of random places in it. Maybe you could find it in a bookshop and have a sneaky peak (or, y'know, buy it)? For example, you can climb up the Monument (by Monument tube station, I assume hence the name...) for only £2 per person! You get a certificate for reaching the top and everything. OR you could go to the BFI Mediatheque where you can access the British Film Institute's archive for free. It's got everything, e.g. something from 1941 called 'Tea Making Tips' ... oh, and the 1966 World Cup! Apparently it's free, you just turn up and book a 2 hr slot. And normally it's not busy. (This at the Southbank Centre).

Anyways, you're probably best to try and get your hands on this sort of book and have a look to see what you'd like to do. It's over 300 pages long, with more than 1 thing per page, so the 2 things I've mentioned don't really show the scope of it..!!

Lou, that book sounds AMAZING. I need to borrow it / have a good snoop through. I should come see your place sometime btw... [/hijack]

Hmmm London wise, I don't know if it's your thing, but I could happily spend literally hours wandering around Camden Market looking at all the cool STUFF. And I have done this a few times in fact! There are some really nice hidden areas with really unusual stalls and oddities to explore. Plus the food part outside is full of amazing NYOMS.

The V&A is free, and pretty cool. Actually there are quite a few decent museums if that is your thing.

I have heard good things about the Trocadero, and have always wanted to go, but have never made it. That is really central I think and close to the theatres? I may be wrong about that though!!

In slightly related news, your posts recently have really made me smile - it is lovely to see you being all upbeat and soppy and you seem to be really settled and happy! I remember when you were going through a rough time hoping that things would turn around for you. I'm glad that they seem to have done just that :)

ETA a missing e!

Thanks for suggestions so far. Imma look into that book this week :)

Camden Market sounds like a good idea, not too far away from my aunties and I always love a good bargin. And the mister is all arty so he may enjoy some museums, I'll look into the Trocadero if it's had good things said :)
Climbing the monument sounds like something for us to get competitive over, may have to kick his arse to the top :)

And thanks Sheli, I'm finally happy with my course and my family and friends. And the mister of course  I have down days and i'm so poor its unbelievable but all is positive in the world of Dani now. I feel like i'm growing into who I want to be now.

John and I have just got back from a couple of days in London. Theatre and stuff yesterday, but we had a lovely morning today in Greenwich. We got a bus (lots of easy ways to get to greenwich, though) and we wandered through the park to The Royal Observatory, went and had a peep at how they are getting on with the Cutty Sark, and then had a look round Greenwich Market. John bought me some lovely bowls for my birthday and I have bought some interesting bits and bobs for various friends. Lots of nice cafes, pubs and market stalls for getting food and drink - yes a very pleasant morning, and as cheap as you want it to be. Mum White.
There are no strangers here, only friends we haven't met yet.

I have 4ish hours to kill in London on Wednesday so I'm going to Waterstones Piccadilly. I don't care if it makes me a complete loser but that shop has legendary status with us little 'Stoners :)

Or, just a few shops down, Hatchard's. Which is also owned by Waterstones but still looks like a proper old-fashioned bookshop. Also, it's called Hatchard's.
