I am a sparkly new joinee as I am apparently now to call myself ..I ended up here as I had a chat with a friend on face book this morning about what a tough time of year it was for everyone and how if we managed to spread a little positivity amongst our friends it might make a difference. Somewhere at the back of my mind I remembered Danny Wallace's book and the ROk's which seemed so very appropriate especially now at this yuck time of year so here I am...please teach me all I need to know so I can spread a little happiness

I don't think you need teaching anything! If you want some RAoK inspiration check out the threads in the RAoK part of the forum - there are some sticky threads there with loads of ideas for different budgets and stuff!
Where abouts in the country are you? There are loads of us spread around so I am sure you won't be the only joinee in your area! I'm in Leeds
ETA: Forgot to ask, would you like a cuppa? I also have biscuits if you fancy one?

At Halloween my daughter wanted to dress up and trick or treat, we didn't really want her to so we turned it around a bit and she dressed up as a mad fairy with her friends and they gave out bags of sweets to all our neighbourhood with a little note in saying "no tricks just a treat for you"...talk about befuddled, many had no clue what was going on ,but loads loved it so I think we'll have to keep up the tradition and invent some more

We did have some talk of the idea of reverse Trick or Treating one year, but I don't think anything came of it. This sounds a really fun idea, though.
Hello, and welcome, by the way. I come from the Norfolk coast too, though I have lived in Leicestershire for 34 years now! Mum White.

It's weird because when I moved from London up to Yorkshire 9 years ago now I thought people were so much more friendly , but I think everywhere people have become so suspicious due to being ripped off or duped...time to set things the right way up again me thinks

Aw you're not a joinee loser... I don't think that's even possible. You should get stuck in to some of the other threads though

I dropped off a bag with food and loo rolls etc in today to a food drop in centre they make up packages each week for people on low incomes of all the essentials and a few extras too.
Also am thinking this whole baking thing is the way forward..everyone loves baked goodies don't they, but am just wondering the best way to deliver them randomly..any hints??

How about delivering them to a charity shop? Me and HBR did that one time. They were very pleased and it's a nice way to say thank you to people who spend their time supporting a charity that you believe in.

You could just try the 'leave it and run' approach in the shop, that I tend to find works well. It's utterly terrifying if you're shy about that kind of stuff, but in a good way. Maybe write a note explaining (it doesn't have to go into the whole Join Me thing, it could just be a vague but friendly 'I think you do a wonderful job and wanted to say thank you. Keep up the good work! Happy Friday!').. walk into the shop, put the baked goodies and the note down on the counter, say 'this is for you!' and then get the hell out of there as quickly as you can!
Actually, this is quite a good strategy because if you put it down on the counter (or whatever you would call it where the till is), they can't refuse to take it. Because by the time they realise you've given them something, you're out the door.
If you feel brave then you could stop and chat to them and tell them in person what you're up to. They will think you're strange, but in a nice way.
Gosh, I write as if I do this every day. I don't. I have been RUBBISH at RAOKs recently, especially ones like these. I should start making a little bit more effort again...

Anyway, Hello, Welcome to Join me. Have fun, you'll make some fantastic friends here. Ones who still text harrass you after several years :-)
Incidentally my favourite ever Raok was when I bought a bunch of flowers, drove round till I saw someone, an old lady walking along with a little girl. I pulled up and wound the window down and gave her the flowers. She was smiling from ear to ear and said 'but why?' I said 'just to see you smile' and drove off.
omg I still have blonde hair in that photo. Must change that.
