Help! I got a Samsung Galaxy S2 today. I haven't had a new phone in about 4 years, and have been making do with my temperamental Sony Ericsson x1 forever! I haven't had a non-sony ericsson phone in about 10 years.
So...
Anyone have any tips about good apps etc or tips on how best to use the phone?

If you haven't done so yet, switch swype on! It's brilliant! To text (or post on the forum, like this) you just drag your finger over the letters of the word and it is nearly always correct! So much quicker than tap tap tapping! You can still tap individual letters for tricky words, but it's quite good at learning for next time.
Imagine fighting the power of the gods with flashlight batteries! Needless to say, it didn't work, and everyone died.

I'd recommend Evernote - dead handy for all those wee bits of information that get forgotten. I've got it across Phone/Tablet/Laptop now.

Do I need avg on it? I noticed there's a free app for it

Assuming it's the same menu as the Galaxy S, go to settings, text & locale and then select input method.

Google listen is good for downloading podcasts. the satnav on the s2 is ace. voicetalk is really useful for sending texts. bbc news app, pulse reader, tweetdeck, amazon ebay virgin trains, adidas micoach, google goggles is practical and a great party game, fbook messenger, youtube, bbc iplayer, dropbox, google earth, barcode reader, guardian app....triposo groupon clouds and sheep, and please enjoy extensive use of flash based websites (TAKE THAT IPHONE!). if i think of any more i'll let you know!!!
