Yesterday. Yesterday was brilliant. Wicked made me cry sooo much (in a good way) and then I walked *miles* around London on my own for the first time ever. Seeing as sometimes I don't even like leaving my house I have a proper sense of achievement going on :)

Day 2 of birthday week is cinema time tonight, finally I get to see Dragon Tattoo...excited and tiny bit scared!

Yay, glad you're having a lovely birthday time, Rhian :D

My particular special-mention smiles today are:
- my team at work
- one of the friends that I felt a bit hurt by yesterday, making amends today without realising (they don't know I felt hurt yesterday, but today they just happened to do something that proved that actually I'm a stupidhead and they do care about me a lot and probably I should just get over myself!)
- today being Groundhog Day and therefore having an excuse to think about how awesome Bill Murray is all day ;) (I'm not even watching the film to celebrate, I just have it playing in my head)
I am the Grand Pooh-Bah of the Universe.

Ravens. I don't know why. They always bring me joy. I think it's the way they remember me.

Maggie, my afternoon bus driver.

The cashier at Starbuck's.

My triple tall peppermint breve.

The movie Letters To Juliet.

Being upset with myself for dropping points in Algebra and then obsessively and with great determination putting all of those points back. My ass was draggin' this morning. And not the good dragon. That would have been better.

Dancing last night was muchos fun, especially being told to 'assume the position on DOOM!'

Even better was when I sang the fist part of the doom song (doom doom doom doom di doom doom!) mostly to myself, because it made me giggle... and the guy I was dancing with at that moment started singing the rest of it back to me!  we had a little Zim moment. Apparently I'm the first English person he's met who knows about Zim! (He is an American)

Also, being asked to dance by one of the boys, who then proceeded to throw me around the room with seemingly no regard to actual Lindy steps!! I had literally no idea what was happening, but it was SO MUCH FUN!

1. A lovely (but freezing)walk around the Kent countryside with some good chums.
2. (Weirdly) Listening to Esther Rantzen (I KNOW!) doing an excellent piece about the early days of Reggae on Radio 2 (I KNOW!).
3. Nice hot bubble bath to sort out the aches and pains of the walk.
It doesn't necessarily make you a bad person.

1. All my best friends planning a night out at the end of the month (may not sound like much but we're spread out all over the country and it's pretty difficult to get us all in the same place at the same time!)
2. The boy I like texting me yesterday to tell me he'd be up for coming on said night out (as he is already friends with my best friend) AND that he loved my idea for a random recipe I texted him!!
3. Remembering a crazy chat I had with a friend last night
4. Speaking to a good friend I haven't seen in ages and planning a day out next weekend

AND lots of things! I am in one fabulous mood, everything is making me smile!

Unplanned hour long walk home through the lovely snow. Complete with abandoned bus and a snowball in the middle of the road that was about 5 foot high...

It was fun and a slightly challenging way!

After watching a traumatizing movie about brutality to women last night, my joy is waking up this morning with Thomas bringing me coffee and giving me a sweet kiss. It simultaneouly caused a comforting sort of rapture blended with utter sadness for all women in pain everywhere.

I promise to be kind to every woman in my life and those I encounter anywhere all week long. And to hold the knowledge that somewhere a young girl has been stolen from her home, taken to harsh surroundings and is being tormented just because she is female, in my heart and mind.

Experiencing rape, loneliness and fear in an atmoshere of viciousness is the worst place a human can possibly be. Man or woman.

Visiting home and going shopping with my Mum for a new phone for her.

Seeing my Grandma and Grandad, and a yummy roast dinner.

Seeing my Aunty, her partner and my gorgeous 14 month old niece. I haven't seen my niece for months and months, and she has gotten SO BIG! :) We had a lot of fun playing and I even managed to grab a few kisses and cuddles.

And a sort of smile... Driving home the motorway was pretty clear, apart from the outside lane. All fine, I just stayed in the other 2. Some parts were very foggy, and when driving through a fog patch I was all of a sudden really close to a car with no fog lights who had almost stopped, and I had to break suddenly and change lanes into the outside lane. Car ended up skidding for about 100meters, but I managed to keep calm and steer into it, and use my gears to slow down. Thus avoiding other cars, and the central reservation. Yay me! (I realise that I was also very very lucky!!!) So yeah, not a usual type of smile, more of a smile because I managed not to crash!!!

Yay! Hello. I just popped on here to look at the smiles from the weekend, while I have been away, and this has just made me smile so much! Mum White xxx

Oh yes, and my own smile is for a lovely visit to Barry to see Peter and Catherine's beautiful, new house. I so love going to stay with my kids in their own homes. I love the way they are all grown up and organised, and get the meals and stuff - it makes me feel so excited and proud of them :) :) Mum White xxx

Sounds like you're a good driver. Not many people would have managed that under the circumstances. Well done.

Lots of smiles playing with my grandchildren today. Ollie (2) is as cute and bright as anything and Annabelle (3 months) has an endless supply of giggles for Granddad Steve.

Meeting went really well and left me feeling quite positive about doing supply.

FINALLY got my glasses sorted. Turns out all that was wrong was the dispenser who dealt with me when I got them didn't fit them properly. So I was expecting a load of hassle and in fact all it took was 5 minutes with a good dispenser to fit them properly and now I can SEE! :D

Sunshine.

actually it's what made me smile yesterday. Went over to my dads house. I was dreading it as it's been ages since I last went so was fully expecting to find it had again been broken into numerous times and wondered what I was going to find. I was so worried I got John to go with me as I couldn't face it on my own.

What I was really not expecting was to find that no one has been in since our last visit, all boarding up intact and everything exactly as it had been.

excellent result :-)

Yesterday's smiles were mostly due to booking flights for our trip to the Hungarian GP. We're flying to Vienna and then roadtripping across to the Hungaroring. Very exciting! Hope to see a little bit of Budapest and Vienna before we make our way home after the race.

Also went to a talk for us marshals, this month it was Ant Davidson, which was cool. He's such a nice bloke. These talks are always really interesting. I'm such a geek!

And I had a nice lunchtime where (in between helping non-BIO with the flights) I got to tell tales of Brno and similar sillinesses, while walking in the sunshine.

Today, I had a nice day, nothing to complain about. I think my particular 'made me smile' moment was when I got in my car and was a little bit kicking myself and in that dodgy 'my-evening-could-go-downhill-now' mood, but when I switched the car on, BW started playing, and I just pushed the volume right up and let him get in my head, and he did his whole 'stand back, world - it's OK, I can do this on my own' thing and I totally bought into it and felt instantly better. :) It is massively uncool and fan-girly and yet also quite magical how sometimes he can just *fix me* when I'm teetering on the edge of breaking a little bit. It's not an exact science, but when it works, it works. "If I'm drowning please don't save me, coz I gotta save myself.."

WELL on my way to clearing my credit cards.

So naturally to celebrate I went clothes shopping.

That isn't entirely true, I went clothes shopping because I've lost nearly 2 stone and my trousers are all falling down, and the old-pair-of-johns-trousers which I've been wearing for the last 2 months (which are hideously unflattering by the way) aren't suitable for winter wear. They're too thin and too short and my ankles get cold :/

And with a long weekend in what I am assured will be freezing Amsterdam, I needed some jeans.

So, in addition to my credit card excellentness, I am also smiling about the fact I am currently wearing a pair of jeans. First jeans that have fit me properly in a LONG time :) though over to the grr thread about the sizing...

Having properly fitting jeans is awesome, isn't it? I have started a new love affair with Levi's, which is a pity because they are EXPENSIVE, but I'd rather pay double and get a pair of amazing fitting jeans than buy a pair of Gap jeans that fit me nicely for about a week and a half and then hang off me like a sack for the rest of eternity. It's also a pity because now I hate wearing my non-Levi's jeans because I'm aware of just how awful they are..! Which means I really need to buy more of the awesome ones so that I have more choice. Which is expensive. But so worth it.

It's because they have different shape jeans for women of different shapes. Well, durr. Of course a beanpole like me doesn't fit into the same jeans as really curvy girls. Dear every other shop, this is why your jeans don't fit me. And probably don't fit the really curvy girls either.

Oh dear, I appear to have gone on a little jeans rant. But I do love my jeans so much.

New smile: non-BIO has geniusly rearranged our outbound flight, giving us 12 extra hours exploration time. And at some point we're going to drop by Slovakia!! :D

Having a really lovely couple of days getting plans sorted out, and a fabulous visit to Brighton Pavillion. I really did enjoy it so much, the dragons are amazing. Thank you K, you are the best tour guide ever, Mum White x

Lou and her dragons. I love that about her.

I am happy to see so many smiles here. I have some, too.

I was very nervous toddling off to school today. All those fresh young minds. My 46 years sometimes feel like they're holding me back, but...wait for it.

I am at 176 of 179 algebra topics.

I got an A on my theatre exam.

I got an A on my psych exam.

I got an A on my communications exam.

And those are some pretty impressive smiles for an old lady like me! :D
The way a crow shook down on me the dust of snow from a hemlock tree,
has given my heart a change of mood and saved some part of a day I had rued.

Also went to a talk for us marshals

I read this as US Marshalls and imagined a room full of cowboys.
The greatest danger for most of us is not that our aim is to high and we miss it, but that it is too low and we reach it.

Never look down on someone unless you're helping them up.

Lou - It is utterly amazing. Brighton Pavillion is just full of dragons. All the decor, everywhere - pictures carvings, supports for lamps, massive ones on the ceiling, stained glass, even the designs in lots of the wall paper. It is AWESOME! It is my new favourite place :) Mum White xxx

I started art classes yesterday. The teacher said "I would rather look at this crap [pointing to my work] than a perfect painting of St. Paul's Cathedral" Best back-handed compliment EVER ^_^

Two 29 minute rides on the Boris Bikes today. Fighting capitalism one minute at a time!

Ooo so there's another reason to go to Brighton! (One of the reasons being one of my favourite Australians - shhh, don't tell him I called him that - and another one of the reasons being, I guess, my friends that live there... ;) )

Today someone told me I was the most interesting person he's ever met. He has clearly only ever met massively dull people, but it made me smile all the same!

Oh and CONGRATULATIONS Rachel!!! Those marks are AMAZING!!! You are clearly very brainy :D

In your review, you can excerpt it as, "I would rather look at this... a perfect painting..."

[edit: I don't think what I wrote made any sense! I was just reading some stuff I wrote back in 2008/09 and life's twists and turns have just made me smile. And also I can't tell you how immensely glad I am right now to be here in 2012 and not still stuck back in 08/09. It wasn't fun back then. Well, occasionally it was. But about 95% of the time, it really was not. 2012 is ace, however.] :)
