Hello,

My website for my freelance work as a copyeditor (www.caffeinefreelance.co.uk) is in desperate need of updating. It's a very simple design (4 pages, just some text and a few logos and an email link tool - so simple, I host it on Dropbox) and I don't want the content changed, I just want the design dragging into the 21st century - something nice and minimalist and contemporary. Or at the very least one designed for widescreen monitors so it doesn't look like the web of yesteryear.

Would any web types be up for this? I can't offer much in the way of payment other than a pint or 2, but it'd be an easy job and I'm more than happy for you to use the site in any portfolio you might have.

Ta!

Have you considered switching it into a Wordpress site? You can use blogging engines like that to make simple non-blog websites that are a doddle to update and maintain.

The bit I think will interest you is that they are easily skinnable using the multitude of themes available free, so you can make it look however you like with no coding or graphic design skills/effort needed. To the knowing eye it does always still look a bit like it's a Wordpress site (unless you go to town with plugins and make changes to the theme), but that's not necessarily a bad thing since it's not in itself a bad choice, I reckon.

I have in the past used weebly to make websites - it's incredibly simple to use, and looks quite good!

However, I have no experience with wordpress, and since I am in no doubt Kieran knows far more about such things than I do, I suggest you go with wordpress ^_^

Just an aside here, Gaz. I read the website as caffeinefree lance and thought, 'O crap. I can't do ANYTHING caffeine free.'

Caffeine freelance is an altogether different matter.

And yet, I have no valuable skills to add. Good luck with the renovation though.

It's an in-joke - when I started freelancing I'd recently been diagnosed with a very minor heart condition that meant I couldn't tolerate caffeine, so I really was caffeine free!

I'm still fairly sensitive to it now, but I can at least handle a cup of coffee without coming out in a cold sweat and setting my heartbeat to "shuffle"

I really like tumblr, you can use your own domain name, set up sub pages, use you own HTML if you like and loads of other bits.

I'd be up for it if you don't want to take the wordpress etc routes... although I can in no way guarantee a timeline as new babies seem to take up all ones spare time.

Your website is very well written, Gaz. There are even small touches of sophisticated humor. I wouldn't change any of the script. And the caffeine molecule is a fabulous touch.

The only drawback to me was the stark white background. Warm it up a tad maybe. :)

Hi Gaz! Welcome to the least helpful reply!

If you say "Cardiac arrhythmia" over and over again, it sounds like it could be a good start to some-sorta-sampler-electronica-drum-n-bass-Ibeefa-massiv-choon* thing.

It has a nice rhythm!

Well, I'm off to iron my Y!

I've done the latest version of http://www.westartandglass.com on Wordpress with my complete lack of technical know-how. Reckon it looks ok. Can highly recommend it for ease of use.

Hi Gaz,

I'd heartily recommend Wordpress too. You can get as technical as you want with it (even if that's "not at all") and it's so customisable, as it's completely content based, meaning you can change the way it looks really quickly with next to no effort (and without affecting any of your well written words).

I've used it for www.adverse-camber.co.uk and changed it round a few times with little work.

I have to back Kieran here.
Wordpress really does kick ass with regularly updated widgets and enginges which can significantly change the power of your online presence.

As an example of a fully blown site, we developed this from a static site.

NTS

and i would say they're not even up to 25% of the features but had a marked increase in both sales and marketing at its launch
