Hi I am Laura and I stumbled upon this friendly forum in a search for information on how to make a flash mob work.

I live in London and am passionate about authenticity, connection, young leadership and especially leading a meaningful life.
Now crazy ideas stick and I had the idea to somehow initiate a flash mob making a beautiful, fun statement of everyone claiming what their purpose and meaning is in their life.
It is an absolutely raw idea, but it completely thrills me, I am smiling from ear to ear and beaming with enthusiasm, so I need help.
I need to learn and gather support, cause I do not have a clue where to start.

Well, I guess this is a start :)

Please get in touch with any resources, links, your contact to have a chat/call, any pointer in the areas of this forum.

I am a bit nervous to post this (please also give me a hint when I am not in the right place) and look massively forward to your replies!

Lots of love,
Laura

This sounds like the start of a wonderful idea - but I have not really much idea of how to make it work. I have taken part in a flash mob Freeze and that was easy, started and stopped by a whistle when everyone was in place and all we had to do was Freeze for the 2 minutes. I have watched a flash mob Zumba dance and that worked bu the instructor starting the music and gradually people coming out of the crowd and joining in until the full class was there.

I guess the best thing to do would be to look at as many flash mob videos on you tube as you can find and see what makes them work. Maybe people could have their messages written on posters and you gould somehow end up with a crowd of people all holding inspirational banners? If you wanted spoken word, maybe you could start with someone setting uo the sound system - it would have to be simple and portable for quick set up and dismantling.

I hope you can figure out how to do this as it sounds fun. Mum White.

Oo yes, maybe you could combine the signs/banners with a freeze? And people could bring along a prop or costume wherever appropriate (so if someone's purpose/meaning was that they were a doctor, they could be in their white coat, holding out a stethescope in one hand and their little sign in the other. That would make it interesting (as everyone's reasoning would be different and the prop/costume bit could be interpretted in different ways) and could make it quite funny too, in a nice way.

And freezing in a busy area like we did gives people the chance to take a look at lots of the signs and take it all in and realise what the point of it is.

Howdy, Laura. (See how I did that? Bein' an American and all?) Have a hug. :)

Yee-haw.

Anyway, back on topic. I have always wanted to rewrite the words of Blondie's Call Me. Join me ( join me) in the crowd. Join me, join me anytime...etc.

Then have everyone learn, add Jane's banners and get everyone singing!

Let us know what we can do to help. And Welcome!

CALL ME

Color me your color, baby.
Color me your car.
Color me your color, darling.
I know who you are.
Come up off your color chart.
I know where you're coming from.

Call me (call me) on the line.
Call me, call me any anytime.
Call me(call me)I'll arrive.
You can call me any day or night.
Call me!

Cover me with kisses, baby.
Cover me with love.
Roll me in designer sheets.
I'll never get enough.
Emotions come, I don't know why.
Cover up love's alibi.

Call me (call me) on the line.
Call me, call me any anytime.
Call me (call me)I'll arrive.
When you're ready we can share the wine.
Call me.

Ooh, he speaks the languages of love.
Ooh, amore, chiama mi (chiama mi).
Ooh, appelle-moi, mon cheri (appelle-moi).
Anytime, anyplace, anywhere, anyway!
Anytime, anyplace, anywhere, any day!

Call me (call me) in my life.
Call me, call me any anytime.
Call me (call me) au revoir.
Call me, call me for some overtime.
Call me (call me) in my life.
Call me, call me any sweet desire.
Call me, call me for your lover's lover's alibi.
Call me (call me) inner line.
Call me, call me any anytime.
Call me.
Oh, call me, ooh ooh ah.
Call me in my life.
Call me, call me any anytime

has given my heart a change of mood and saved some part of a day I had rued.

I've taken part in a few flash mobs but never been a part of organising one. My advice would be to look up any one particular flash mob you can remember, try to find out who organised that & contact them. Hopefully they could give you some tips.
There are probably just some such people at flashmob.co.uk. Who have been behind/involved in a number of flash mobs that I've heard of.

The only specific advice I would give RE your flash mob is:

Don't do it at a train or Underground station at rush hour.

I've been stuck behind one at Liverpool St when trying to get home & I didn't care what they were doing or why, my only interest was in barrelling them out of my way like a charging rhinoceros.
