Hasbro have just released a version of RISK called 'Legacy' which looks amazing! (clicky link to see a PDF of the rule book)

Set in some sort of future Earth (with much the same board), each game allows the setting to change. Assuming you're playing with the same group of players, each game is a continuation of the previous one. Winning games allows you to permanently mark the board with the names of new cities or claimed continents. Furthermore, certain game elements are sealed away, only to be opened if certain game conditions are met. It's like 'unlocking' characters in a computer game - once unlocked they affect game play forever.

Essentially it's a game that you personalise, and build up a fictional 'history' of events with.

All of which is very cool. But it would be even more cool if I could find a bunch of people who'd like to play it on a semi-regular basis. Anyone? Anyone?

Review (and pics) here: http://www.armchairg...game-review.htm

EDIT: This might be a good contender for a game if we did have a sponsored Endurance Gaming Weekend...

The game is on my Christmas list so I think I'll probably have it by the New Year

I'm quite likely to arrange an endurance-style Games Day (maybe to coincide with the Olympic Games, possibly earlier) where we can try to thrash out as many games with Joinees as possible. And then we'd have a nice Join Me orientated RISK: Legacy set to auction at the end of the year, which will be signed by a whole bunch of Joinees (since every winner of the first 15 games has to sign the board).

If people are interested I can try to pin down a specific weekend.

The more I read about it, the more excited I get. A certain someone has offered to get it for me for Christmas.

Amongst the several packs of cards that are 'unlocked' over several games is one marked 'DO NOT OPEN. EVER.'

From what I'm reading this is one of the most exciting boardgames ever. Coming from people who, in some instances, don't really like RISK.

I'm very excited about it, but the whole not-living-in-London thing poses a bit of a poser.

My greatest fear is that they'll sell out before just-before-Christmas-payday! From what I've seen online people are playing a game or two, and then rushing out to get their own copies. Others are just buying multiple sets for themselves to play with different groups of friends!

If I arranged a big endurance-style games day (endurance style in order to raise some money for charity) would you be up for traveling into London for it? Springtime maybe?

I'm going to pencil in last day of March, first day of April weekend. I'll need to check my own plans, but if anyone who's interested has trouble with that date (or can propose a better one) - let me know!

Excellent. I shall have to see when and where I can arrange a big sit down and play. May well be cracking it open on New Year's Day, but I suspect a full 15 games will not be played then, if people cannot make it.

Didn't get to play this on New Year's Day as planned, so still looking to get the campaign started. May well be playing it at the start of Feb but alternatively is there any good date people are able to meet up in London for a five player game? (first come first serve :-p )

Meh! STILL haven't played this. Not so much as broken the seal. Anyone fancy playing a game of RISK any time soon?

We're currently four games into the fifteen, and I've been writing up events as they occur (some of it may need a little updating). The details can all be found here:

http://legacy726.tumblr.com/

(but be warned... some of the names players have given to cities are NSFW).

Oh, and ideally I'd love to get a karma army version of the game started but, obviously, I'll need to buy a fresh unsullied copy. And rule that certain names shouldn't be used for cities, with the aim of producing a game people will be happy to play with the rest of their family. :-)

Anyone interested in this game who finds themselves in The Cock tonight try to grab me - I'm bringing it along in my bag (but may not hang around long as I've got next to no money).

Was reading this thread because I love playing risk, but I'm in Scotland! There has got to be good online versions though that you could set up a Joinee room for?
