Conspiracy Theories

Man didn't land on the Moon! My Uncle's only Brother's only Son told me that NASA faked it all by filling in Dudley swimming baths with cement powder while nobody was looking and filmed it all there! And he knows, coz he was the NASA tea boy that gave Neil Armstrong his Astro-food!

I just don't get conspiracy theorists, particularly when it comes to the moon landings. It seems very depressing that these people seem to thing that the human race has never, and will never be capable of what is one of its greatest achivements. And don;t get me started on those who genuinely belive that the Earth is flat and that everyone has been lying to us for several hundred years.
But of course all those offering evidence that things happened the way they happended are "part of the system" and as such their evidence is discounted. It's weird. A whole point of view that insists that events unfolded in a particular way, without proof, and any clear evidence to the contrary must therefore be "them", misleading everyone again.
Genuine question: Has ANY conspiracy theory ever been proved? Watergate perhaps, but I suppose that wasn't a conspiracy "theory" to begin with?
I know for the most part that the whole thing is very silly and there are more important things to gripe about, but it's been making me Cranky today. Hence the above.

Also: I found out the other day that one of the biggest conspiracy nutters around is the bloke out of The Corrs. So now there are two reasons to dislike him
Also also: anyone with Freesat should check out Richplanet.net. The guy is bonkers - literally EVERYTHING is a cover-up. Even this post*!

But I think that conspiracy theories will always be with us, as long as people can come up with even semi-plausible questions to the official version. There is still a sizeable number of people that believe that Barack Obama was born in Kenya and that he's a Muslim. There are people that question the explanation of JFK's assassination (personally, I think that one leaves a lot to be desired). Entertaining in a "what if?" way, but they generally just end up producing one-upmanship and very little of value. I do kind of wonder what would happen if some old general did pipe up and say, "Roswell? Yeah, we found a crashed saucer out there and four dead aliens. We cremated the aliens and sold the saucer for scrap - it became the guardrail out on Highway 47. Look, it landed on federal land, so it was technically the same as a vehicle accident. There wasn't any ID on the passengers and no registration on saucer, so we followed the book..."

Yep, there's just so much that doesn't add up on that one.
Also, there was a rather high profile abduction case a couple of years ago, which, if you take the time to look into it, doesn't hang together at all. I'm convinced that not everything is as it seems there. I won't mention it by name, as they are, apparently, quite litigious, and look for people claiming that there is anything fishy about that case at all, but I'm sure you would have to be Mad not to figure it out. (Of course, the litigiousness may be a over exaggeration, but let's not risk it, eh?)

Aha! If ever I saw a blatant lie to the masses. What are you really up to Gaz? Hmm? Giving you the benefit of the doubt; I bet MOSSAD hacked your account to edit your post and put that in there, or something.
I love conspiracy theories. Always so entertaining. 99.99999% are utter tosh, of course.
Buuut, there is plently of misinformation "leaked" from governments, often to combat credible details that have been genuinely leaked. There is also a great deal of favours-for-favours between politicians and journalists and when the security services get involved, we, as a public, don't have a clue if what gets to us is true or not.
I'm just generally in favour of not trusting any form of government

But you notice he never goes by his real name, James Paul McCartney. I know he's a fake because once I saw him in a crowd across the street, so I yelled to him, "James! James! James! James! Jim! Jim! Jim! Jim! Jimbo! Jimbo! Jimbo! Jimbo! Jimmy! Jimmy! Jimmy! Jimmy!" and he had to act like he didn't know me.

Biddle embellishes. He paints with a grandiose brush of abstract colors. And he may or may not tell falsehoods. I don't know the man. These are merely my perceptions gleaned from his posts, Doug. And that is the absolute truth.

In fact, I think we all will.
But I demand photographic evidence.
Otherwise, we might all think it's just a, y'know, conspiracy...
