So, what do you do when your overinflated prices for the Nintendo 3DS are undercut by another retailer? Simple - tell your staff to take money out of the till, buy up their stock, then sell it as preowned at a price higher than you bought it new at complete with reduced warranty.

Bunch of arses.

Heh.
But GAME are rubbish. I can't remember the last time they had the best price on anything. Or even had all of the things I wanted in stock. Hopefully anyone with any sense just won't buy them & then they'll end up losing money on each unit.

GAME don't scam. We can't be bothered with that (Really. It's much simpler to actually help people. If something's cheaper at Argos, we'll tell you to go to Argos.) If we're out of stock, have you tried other stores? The website's run from a factory, they might have what you're looking for. And usually cheaper too.

Price: Ah, price. You might complain, but we do accept trade ins, you can get a reward card and build up points for money off, and you can always get the preowned. Same guarentee as a new game, but it's usually cheaper. (If it breaks, bring it back with the reciept. It's easy.)

I heard about this "Buying from Tesco's". It was one manager at one store (who is well known for making decisions that are bad) who did this. And now the rest of us get a bad rep =(

We pride ourselves on being experts in our own videogame fields. I can't tell you sod all about COD or Battlefield, but ask me about Portal 2 or Bioshock and I can talk for days.

I have nothing personally against Game, and I do occasionally buy stuff there, but they're consistently the most or equally the most expensive for new games, offer poor to middling trade-in prices compared to independents, always try the "you must preorder! There will be no copies!" cobblers* to get money in the bank up front, and every time I've overheard someone giving "advice" it's been sales pitch or by and large back of box knowledge. Such as the guy I overheard recently upselling a brand new xbox 360 slim plus kinect to a parent of a small kid who'd come in wanting a Wii who absolutely did not need a 360/kinect. I've also seen branches in two different places I've lived break release date embargoes to get the jump on competitors.

Your branch might be different and I suspect a lot does depend on local staff, but across the board Gamestation seem far better for knowledge and often prices, which is very odd given they're owned by the same company. And it makes the fact that Game have closed some stores in favour of Game branches and made Gamestation adhere more to Game's style of operation all the more annoying. At least Gamestation don't yet have the policy that you can't walk in and browse without being pestered.

None of this makes Game particularly awful compared to shops in general, but taken as a whole they're pretty mediocre.

*I've been gaming for close to 30 years. The only times I've not been able to walk into a shop and buy something I wanted on launch day without reserving was when the Wii came out. Oh, and one other game that I can't recall.
