International womens day

I was walking along with my wonderful girlfriend today, and a woman was walking towards us. With complete disregard for my own safety, I stepped into the road to allow the two women to pass each other safely on the pavement.
I said to my girlfriend "Did you see that? I just stepped into the road on International women's day so that two women can safely walk on the pavement."
She said "Would you have done that if she wasn't as good looking?"

Celebrating Women's Day with discrimination, Tom?
Did people see the Judi Dench/Daniel Craig video?
I think Dench has excellent delivery, unsurprisingly, and there are some statistics in there that surprised me. I thought it was a very effective video.
I did find it a bit amusing that it resulted in Daniel Craig becoming a trending topic on Twitter in the U.K. but Judi Dench not.
What struck me later is how casually it links being a woman with dressing like a (typical) woman. I guess it's very difficult to appropriately handle issues of gender identity and stereotype in that sort of medium—you can't really visually portray the idea of "imagine yourself in our shoes" without making some generalization of what "our shoes" look like. In the end I have to forgive it that shortcoming, even though I know the cause of supporting women's rights ultimately has to include supporting their right not to dress, act, or live as women.
