I have just bought Fallout 3. I shall be playing that.

I am also still living in the year 2008.

I'm getting it. Not tomorrow though, waiting until payday (28th).
Not only are there Elvis outfits, but an entire Elvis themed gang called 'The Kings'.

Also, it seems that it's really very worth playing it in hardcore mode.

I'm not getting it, or at least not yet anyway. For one thing all the reviews suggest it seems to be festooned with bugs, and for another I simply can't face another monster game for a bit - I haven't even finished the bloody Fallout 3 expansions yet!

no shame there Steve! im still going to be playing fallout 3 occassionally! its amazing!

@Gaz games of this scale always are a little buggy, but the problem is easily solved with regular saves! i doubt it'll be any more buggies than oblivion which was pretty bad but still enormously playable!

Oh hell yeah - Fallout 3 itself was pretty bad. Thing is, from reviews I've read New Vegas is particularly clunky.

Another reason to get it on the PC if you can. Besides being £10 cheaper. Bethesda have an enormous PC community, there were hundreds of amazing mods & expansions for Fallout 3 & pretty much all the bugs were patched out within days of release if not hours. The same will be true of Vegas.

I was thinking about getting the PS3 version but, yeah, the PC version is so much better, no crazy loading times and you can see for MILES!.

while i agree, i'll be getting the ps3 version first and probably the pc version after a few price drops and when the community has released a load of mods for it!

my pc version of fallout 3 was unrecognisable!

As usual, I will be behind the times waiting for the price to go down whilst playing other games later than everyone else... I'll let you know when I get it!

There are some truly terrifying glitches to be found it seems. But a large patch for the PC version has already gone live with PS3 & 360 patches to follow soon apparently.

I bought the game on the day of release, and they already had the 1.01 patch out on PS3. I've not seen any bugs thus far - closest thing was a woman with a pair of sunglasses sticking out of her ear, but let's faceit we've all done that at some point.

Only 45mins in, but no glitches yet.
I'm playing a much more delicate character this time. My Fallout 3 guy (Blitzkrieg) was a bit of a tank, quiet type & a dab hand with the assault rifle & explosives. Whereas this guy I've specialised in speech, perception, survival skills & energy weapons (with extra accuracy at the expense of fire rate) & am playing on Normal-Hardcore. So fighting should be a last resort I think. It'll be interesting to play it where I'm just fighting to stay alive rather than marauding God-like as "The Saviour of the Wasteland!"

i think the main difficulty in this game is anoying other factions which is unaviodable! that and early on encounters with giant rad scorps and nightkin!

i restarted the game last night on hardcore and spent a good few hours making my way across the map to get one of the companions ( cause they are unbelievably helpful early on!) i got myself stuck in a den of 6 giant radscorpions only to escape into a nightkin base, had to stealthboy it across a dodgy bit of scenery to get out! must have done about 30 saves!

bugs wise, ive had to "push" npc's stuck on things ranging from bushes to dogs. ive had atleast 4 game freezez now, and seen a number of people monwalking. objects falling through the floor. the speech while a million times better than fallout is still given to giving you options which you havent discovered yet!

still....love it though!

Been to the strip - now faffing with sidequests and such while I decide which faction to support (if any). Don't want to permanently piss off a faction if they still have stuff that I want. Currently digging around old Vaults in the vain hope of it ending up with power armour training...

Ooh, yeah, I've not seen any power armour yet. Apart from one pauldron on a Caasar's Legion Centurion. I'm still in leathers, suffering from a serious case of "getting shot will kill you" & though ammo, food & water have really been no problem I'm running seriously low on Rad-Away.
Spoiler

All the settlements & the NCR love me. But I'm "vilified" amongst Caesar's Legion & the Powder Gangers. I get a feeling the Legion especially, might be a thorn in my side later.
I've also experienced a few bugs now though. No game breakers really. One dog with it's head in a wall, one popup boulder & one occurance of the game crashing when I died. But that was ok really, if it's going to crash, I'd rather it do it right after I've died.

a silly amount of hours in!, finished one of the four endings within 2 days of buying it, but only cause i used the power of the glitch to hide behind a robot while he took care of guys that were killing me in one shot! ( tip: the bad guys at the end of main quests arnt levelled to you, but are way higher!) and because of this i've stalled on the main game to explore and level up. Just about on level 25 now and im planning to go and finish the main quests.
all the juicy weapons and armour slowly start to appear as you level up!, but for power armour training theres really only one faction that can give it to you ;)...

Spoiler

i've been literally filling the inventorys of both my companions with everything i can find to sell and make as many caps as poss! this game seems much more geared towards spending!

my one really important tip is this... if you get the companion ED-E be really careful to make sure he's with you when you save ( and really, save frequently anyway) theres a bug ive actually emailed Bethesda about concerning
ED-E dissappearing but still being registered as a companion( can check it by looking for his perk in your perk list) Anyway, as it turns out, to advance the game onto ANY of the four endings you have to at one point enter a tent and leave your companions outside, if ed-e is missing then you cant manually set him to wait and hence wont be able to go on with the main quests!

which companions are you guys using? I have Cass, found her brilliant with a gun so far and not one bit annoying!

I've got ED-E & Boone too. Boone's been great, we make a fine sniping duo. ED-E is a bit shit though, he's really just my robot servant, following me around carrying my loot.
I've met Neil & got the option to recruit him if I storm the Super Mutant camp, but, not really being combat oriented this time I didn't really want to attack a bunch of Super Mutants yet. But I might go back & do that now I've got a bunch of C-4 & my nice guns.

there's a reason ED-E is already known amongst the fallout communities as "the flying locker" :)

try looking here Andy though save before firing it, no suprises for guessing its rather buggy ( for me anyway!)

Nightkin on that hill are a piece of piss - just whack tham with a cattle prod til they fall over, then put bullets in their unconcious bodies until deaded. Easy!

Bearing in mind I'm not particularly combat oriented. My energy weapon skill is 80, I have a sniping perk & heavily modded Laser RCW & Plasma Rifle with lots of various ammos. But I suck in melee & I'm pretty weedy & with light armour. I don't want to let them get close. I might see if I can snipe a few from the adjacent hills before accepting the quest. Maybe mine the bottom & then lure the rest down.
Boone is usually quite good at snarling & waving his machete to attract attention when things get up close & personal & then I just cap them in the side of the head.
I'm determined to do this tonight now! Let's see how it goes!

Elliot you need the gauss rifle! it has a scope too. in sneak it'll take down the deathclaw mother in one shot, night kin enraged in two!

ED-E is a huge help here as he wil let you target the nightkin using stealboys in VATS.

Yarp. Can't remember where I found it now, but it KO's anything is a couple of pokes, leaving you free to cowardly murder them at your leisure! Not tried it on anything more tough than a Nightkin so far - I tend to run away from Deathclaws and Cazadors at the moment...

Where do you find it? I've not met the Brotherhood of Steel yet (they're 3rd on my to-do list after the Super Mutant Hill & The Old Mormom Fort) but I figure they'll ahve some useful weapons and/or gizmos for me.

I saw a guy carrying a cattle prod type thing I think. It looked like the coil from a gauss rifle wrapped around a baseball bat.

I think it was on one of the abandoned caravns - the northwest one I think. Either that or the ranch to the north of it!

Is the scope for the laser rifle? Press L2 and you should be able to attach it. If it's the wrong part, it won;t appear on the list.

@Elliot, only place ive seen the Gauss rifle is with the BoS. when you find them they're quite cold and you have to do a few quests for them to get in and have access to a limited inventory, pass all of their quests and you get a heap of cool stuff in their inventory... and other stuff ;)

probably best to have the companion Veronica with you on this quest, she'll get you in without all the quest crap! :)

Anyone completed this or gotten near the end? Or played Dead Money? I got pretty close to the end I think,
Spoiler

But I heard finishing the main quest ends the game again, a la Fallout 3, only to be reopened by some DLC later. So I've put it on hold for now & will pick it up again with all the DLC once that's out. I like to have all the side quests done before I embark on the final stretch.

I've completed it a couple of times, going different routes to see what happens if you stand with certain factions. But I've wasted Mr House and Ceasar, so I'll need to start a new game to find out what happens there. Finished Dead Money which was good, but really "crashy" in the Fallout way. Also rather disappointed that you can't go back to the DLC location once you've finished the DLC main quest.

Currently one trophy off platinum on this ( and all trophies on dead money)

Id say elliot create a main save once youhave met benny in the casino and he's escaped. pretty much form there on is when you get the access to the quests for the 4 endings. done all 4 endings , hoover dam isnt too bad, on later levels though youre going to need some stopping power!
as wilf said completing any of the 4 endings returns you to your last save, which is no good really, so to get all 4 endings you need to go back to just after meeting benny again.

as a tip for dead money, find the location for the start of the quest on your pip boy, then empty your inventory at your safe house and fast travel back to the location to start dead money WITH NOTHING, you're going to start this quest with all items taken from you anyway, so make the most of the inventory space, if your overencombered its a long hike to civilisation!

Benny didn't escape, I tricked him upstairs & then put a grenade in his pocket. Deservedly; mother****er shot me in the head. I killed Caesar too, no interest in siding with him. I might replay at some point & side with Mr House in the change in management, I sided with Yes Man & then kind of regretted it.

So, I got all 4 DLC's yesterday & am all primed for ploughing through them over the next week or so.
I only played for half an hour last night & Boone died. But he did so in such a heroic fashion, saving me from a group of Deathclaws, that I didn't reload. It felt appropriate. It also gives me a new feel for the second leg of my playthrough. My new companions are Veronica & Arcade (got a multiple companion mod), still got ED-E too.
According to reviews I've got 15-20hrs more Fallouting ahead of me.

I know a few of you got the Dead Money DLC, how about the more recent 3? Anyone completed the lot?

I've completed Dead Money, Honest Hearts and Old World Blues - Lonesome Road is downloading as we speak and I shall also be doing some serious Fallouting tonight!

Rather liked Dead Money and Honest Hearts, Old World Blues not so much, but it guess it's the equivalent "silly" DLC to Mothership Zeta in Fallout 3. Lonesome Road sounds pretty awsome.

Likewise completed them all , and currently maybe 4 hours into Lonesome road!

Unlike Deadmoney, the other 3 expansions you can go back to visit at a later date so no need to fill ure inventory to the max before you leave!
all of the expansions give more of an insite to the new vegas story, with lonesome road finally revealing the last chapter in the story.

Honest hearts is ok, not my favorite but has some nice side storys to it.

Old world blues is brilliant, true comedy and well worth taking your time to read all and explore it. theyve taken some time to get the atmosphere they wanted for this one. only tip... have something handy to deal with nightstalkers.
(wilfs right though, it does detract from the serious ness of it!)

Lonesome road so far has been very good also. finally starting to answer some of my unanswereds! plenty of fire fights in this one so far and lots to explore. different vibe from the other two so far, probably because its the last pack.

as a tip anyone playing on the ps3 and suffering from insane amounts of slowdown... turn off all the auto save functions and save it manually. Lonesomeroad literally froze every 2 minutes while i had them on. i turned them off and its run perfect ( though forgetting to save frequently is a big kick in the balls!)

on a side note and as its also maye by bethesda.... Skyrim anyone??
