Today, in the exciting world of being new parents that me and chez live in, we went to a Baby Cafe. Basically it's when loads of Mums (and a couple of dads) from the area get together for a chat, share experiences and get the opportunity to talk to health workers, breast feeding councillors (yes they exist, and no Biddle, you can't do this) and learning advisors. This wasn't the weird bit.

The weird bit was taking Godzilla, who is one week old, and meeting a group of babies who were 16 and 17 weeks old - they were HUGE! They were still babies but they were about three times the size of teeny tiny Godzilla. Then I realised that when Skeletor Sweeny shows up, that will be the size difference - the same as between Andy and a normal sized person!

Wowsers!

There was a "baby cafe" near where we used to live in Edinburgh. Unfortunately it was the local Costa that the painfully trendy Stockbridge mums (only ever mums - dad was off working himself ragged somewhere to pay for the baby Ugg* boots and other absurd designer wear) used to gather, let their kids run riot while they chatted - always a good idea where people are wandering about with cylinders of near-boiling liquid - and generally block off access to all the sofas and toilets and triple the queuing time while they have a 15-minute discussion with the poor staff about whether the biscuits have fair trade chocolate chips in.

If I ever get that self absorbed and inconsiderate as a parent, I give permission for someone to give me a good slap!

*brilliantly, my iPhone corrected Ugg to Ugh. If that's not a sign of a truly smart smartphone, I don't know what is!

My cousin had twin girls 4 weeks ago. Both were tiny and poorly. Both have gained between them 5lbs! It's amazing how quickly babies grow.

Eva, was born in June and is now HUGE

and in terms of expensive baby stuff, I watched Cherry has a baby the other night, and she was with someone who was considering a Juicy Couture nappy bag. As Cherry pointed out it seems odd to spend over £300 on a bag that is all about poo.

Yay! Baby measuring contest!

Although to be honest Ben, I don't think Skeletor's going to be that small...the legs are already confirmed as being almost freakishly long! I think you might win on hair growth though ;)

Hertford's got quite a pretentious Cafe Mum scene so I'm really looking forward (i.e. not) to spending all my time on hair and beauty sessions to keep up with the ones who've just borrowed the baby back from the nanny to go out for a three hour lunch.

OMg i watched that show the other night, I couldn't believe the price some women are prepared to pay for stuff you really dont need... We have a whole wealth of crap in this house I just dont see us ever using for Evey...

The baby group we went to was lovely, I really enjoyed chatting to some other mums about the birth, I'm so glad to hear that mine was not unusual and the things that happened after were quite normal too....

I shall be going back... if only for the free bananas :D
Let me apologise now if I hurt anyone's e-feelings.

I always pass "That Place on the Corner" on my way to work, it looks like a lovely kids cafe, big tables for mummies and little tables for the kiddies. Always wanted to go in, they have Kids Discos and free kids meals, someone want to lend me a baby!?

That is mad, I remember 'my fake baby' and these people were buying designer gear for this lump of plastic - and it wasn't their first, they had 3 of the freakish things, all kitted out with D&G vbaby gear, bottle full of fake milk, pushed around in prams and all.

I'm not going to ramble any more about that show, freaked the fudge out of me!

I don't need a councillor. I'm comfortable with what I do.
