Today was Apple's new iPod release day, yada yada yada. But in amongst all the usual guff and new, slightly smaller iPods, was a little demo of a bit of software now available for newer iPhones/iPd touches. It'll doubtless be mainly used for games, but it's more than a little impressive and is available to take a look at for yourself:
1. Download Epic Citadel from the app store (free)
2. Pick up jaw from floor
Seriously, this is a tech demo and just a little village thing you can wander round, but it looks *phenomenal*. As in PS3/Xbox 360 good. And it was programmed in just 8 weeks.
Amazing.

Great, sounds fascinating - had a look but am not on wireless so will connect when I get home. Thanks for the alert! Been really making the most of the App Store lately and the iPhone never ceases to amaze me.

You might need the iPhone 4/new iPod touch retina display to get the full-on "wow", but it's still pretty amazing. You do need to be rocking an iPad, iPhone 3GS/4 or 3rd/4th gen iPod touch though, as it won't run on anything less.

Downloaded it last night (I have 3GS). I totally agree that the graphics are amazing, and the depth and size and attention to detail is phenomenal. The leaves falling from trees for instance is a great touch. I did get ever so slightly bored after a while, though, in that nothing happens - I know it's just meant to be a showcase of the company's graphics ability, and to do it in 8 weeks is amazing (I'd need at least nine and a half), but I rather expected to be able to go into doors, meet people, perhaps shoot a few folk or buy stuff. It's the perfect platform for something interactive, and maybe something like that might come?
Or is my criticism just lazy and unappreciative of where technology has got to?

The something is most definitely coming - it's the engine they're using to run a fantasy-type game called Project Sword.

So it is. So if the Epic Citadel is the basis for it, then knowing your way around it might just be an advantage when the game comes out. It sounds like it could be an incredible game.
Bit like visiting Prypiat before playing Call of Duty 4?
