Hello!

Having just graduated, I'm now on the job hunt. I'm trying to get into the gaming industry but not having much luck at the minute.

Is there anyone on here that's good with CV's and that could have a quick look over mine as I don't think it's quite good enough anymore.

Ta muchly.

Thanks for that Darren.

I now have another question. i'm going to send my CV out to companies with a begging letter but I don't know what to put in the letter. Any hints on how to do a covering letter anyone?

Look for unpaid internships. In any creative industry that's the way in.

Good luck!

Covering letter:

My only advice would be to keep it simple. When you're writing in unsolicited, nobody is going to read a load of text - keep it short and sweet.

We've just been recruiting for entry level in our classical team, and you really only look at those that have LOTS of experience at Uni, or have done internships with other orchestras. so practical experience essential.

If we're talking videogaming industry, have a look round at small indie games review sites and see if they're looking for any contributors. You might not get paid for it (other than some free games if you're lucky), but you might get to make some contacts.

Thanks for the help everyone. :)

I'm not looking to get into game reviewing if that's what you meant Gaz. I'm looking to get more into the retail aspect, so looking to send the letter to GAME and Gamestation, but also to tweak it and send it to the smaller companies around Guildford as I've found a couple already.

Ah right. It *would* be game reviewing, though I didn't specifically mean it'd only be useful for that specific career. When I did it, I had contacts at game firms, PR agencies, retailers etc. and got to go along to a couple of trade shows.

I have a friend who works as a store manager in GAME, he seems to have surprisingly good access to stuff.

What sort of contacts might you want? I could see if I can get anything from him...?

Ideally I'd like a job at any Surrey branch of GAME. Then I shall climb the ranks and become manager myself :) That's what I want to do until Nintendo headhunt me ;)

Any contacts would be good, anything to get off the ground and start moving.

He got back to me eventually, he's not working for GAME anymore, but says that the most effective way with GAME is through the website, making sure you forward your CV. Other than that he wasn't much use!

Good luck!
