Has anyone found any cheap travel options, especially for Sunday?

I looked and found that you can get some returns (with booked seats and that) for £50.

But to get two singles would be loads as the return half is stupidly expensive.

So have you checked out returns - not usually the cheapest option but seems to be in this case.

Oh and I did not look where I clicked and we are changing loads - get the 09.00 from St Pancras if you don't want to be stupid.  Fortunately I think we can still get on that one as we have an open return (seriously - why is an open return cheaper than two singles?)

And it seems that we have no seat reservations either.  Oh well for two hours we can stand if need be.

£50 was the best result I was getting as well.
I'm sure there should be better than that around though...

Do we have a party train?

I was thinking the 10:00...?

But yes, it seems like around £50 open return is the cheapest option. What happened to cheap advance fairs?!?!

I shall be coaching my way up with Anna for whatever nominal fee they charge when they start the cheap fares.

Hopefully I won't be ragingly hungover this time...

Train fares suck. Fact.

Presumably though the £50 return fare is standard, so it might be worth continuing the search in case anything else comes up as it's not like we won't be able to get it if we can't find anything else?!

This had occured to me. Although not too late that we can't get reservations.

There is a possibility of a strike by Network Rail maintenance workers over Easter. Even if it goes ahead, it shouldn't cause too many problems.
However, signallers have also been balloted and if they vote in favour, it could be disastrous.

There weren't any cheap fares on the Sunday back to Devon, either, I think.  I'm going on the Saturday evening.

The signaller's ballot has been called in favour of strike

At the moment, there are no details of strike dates, but don't be surprised if it's Easter.

I believe when I went to ggf three years ago I was accidently ON the party train, but was in a different carriage! What time does it get in to Nottingham?

Incidentally, I'm bamboozeled about this strike. Shall I book my ticket to get my seat or just wait and see if the strike goes ahead because then I'll be stuffed?

Train strike now threatened for next week. http://news.bbc.co.u.../uk/8592104.stm

So me and Kate are going on the 10am from St Pancreas on Friday. I am declaring this PARTY TRAIN CENTRAL.

Who's up for it?

Jason, what time will your 10am train get into Nottigham? Your train will probably go through Luton, so I'll hop on it to if you tell me which it is! :)

I think we're booked on the 10am train/ Party Train, although we are not associating with rifraf and have booked 1st Class (nothing at all to do with breakfast, unlimited tea and extra baggage space for moi).

Will have to double check with the Ticket Master though as he's in charge. Although he did leave the tickets at my place for "safe keeping". Oh dear.

I shall be one of the rifraf on the 10 from London, except getting on at Luton at 10:24! :) First class isn't something students can afford to waste their drink money on ;)

I was going to say it's only a few pounds more, but that is of course equivalent to a pint.

How did manage to reply within the quote there?! Stupid phone gadget.

It's about £7 more, that's THREE pints t'up north!! Or it might be just the one in Notts; I haven't had a pint in the south for some months but I do remember nearly fainting last time!  :P
