Here's a selection of hotels for people coming to Crispy Ducks.

Travelodge - family rooms available for £55 per night, quite central, 10 minute (uphill) walk from town.

Premier Inn Durham East - rooms for £54 per night, a couple of miles out of town
http://www.premierinn.com/pti/hotelInforma...o?hotelId=24087

Premier Inn Durham city centre - £63 per night, slap bang in the centre of town, but next to bars and nightclub, so may be noisy
http://www.premierinn.com/pti/hotelInforma...o?hotelId=26617

Bannatyne Hotel - £45 per night, a couple of miles out of town, but includes free access to gym / pool

Grafton House - for those with more money than sense, suites start at £150 per night, but have spectacular views of the Castle and Cathedral

And people were asking me about which town to stay in - I would suggest Durham, as coming back to Newcastle to party on failed miserably last year, and the few of us that have to come back can easily do it later on on the N21 (I think it's the N21...it's every hour anyway and only takes about 35 mins and goes from town centre rather than at the TOP OF THE BIGGEST HILL EVER like the train)
The greatest danger for most of us is not that our aim is to high and we miss it, but that it is too low and we reach it.

The Travelodge was handy accomodation for me last year. Nice and central and in a quiet area :)

Mister Armitage - I see you looking at this thread. Would it influence your decision if I told you there was a Wimpy just a few miles outside of Durham? :)

Nope, sorry. Our plans of 'make sure we go to tons of join meets this year' seems to be getting scuppered at the first hurdle of being temporarily poor again, we just can't afford £50+ per night travelodges, before considering travel costs etc. Why can't the UK be like the rest of Europe and have dozens of dirt cheap hostels in every town???

The sooner I learn to drive and get us a camper van the better I reckons

EDIT: We shall now be attending. That's me and Vix, not any kind of poncy royal we. Urinary damacy ftl

Thinking of going but only for the 1 day cause I'm thinking of just getting a train back to middlesbrough on the night, sounds like a cheaper option than staying, gotta fuind out train times then.

I've booked a family room in the Durham Travelodge for my loansome. If anyone wants somewhere to stay for cheap then let me know. If not then don't :)

It's better to count your chickens before they are hatched, cause chickens run about so frantically it's impossible to count them accurately.

From the website:

Yes, family rooms include a double bed plus single sofa bed and with single pullout. They can sleep up to 3 adults or a family of 4 (2 adults and 2 children under 16). You can choose this room type when making your booking.
