Well folks, in a sad twist of events I regret to inform you that the Floozy in the Jacuzzi (the fountain where we have the duck race) has been drained.

I don't know if it'll have water in it by next week, so we need to think of contingency plans.

We could either:

A) Have the duck race at a different venue (The canal at Brindley Place is easy but it'd be hard to retrieve the ducks afterwards and we may get into trouble)

or

B) Use the floozy for a different kind of race. Look at this picture of the fountain. What do you see inside the fountain?

STEPS! Not the ones on the side, but inside the fountain itself, there are 2 steps of steps that lead down to the lower pool.
And I wonder if there's anything that you could race down steps?

Something like this perhaps:

Oh gosh, when you first said 'another race' I thought 'Danger could strike!'.

Slinkys could be a winner.

I was trying to find a foldable net for the duck race anyway, although I've been struggling to find one that folds to anything less than 70cm, which if I'm also carrying Craniium really isn't small enough.

We usually find that there are one or three fools brave enough to retrieve the ducks. Whils a net may be useful, it's not always necessary!

So folks, bring your slinky AND your duck!

Hawkins Bazaar do them. There's a store in the Bull Ring in Brum, or you can order online. They're not called slinky though as that's a trade mark; they're called springy.

If the water is back in the floozy by the weekend, then we'll do the duck race AND we can do a slinky race too at the Old Joint Stock! Hurrah!
