(but there didn't seem to be a HUGE amount of interest...?)

I genuinely don't know... if I think of something, I'll tell you....

Venue was great in that raffle/auction/etc etc could go on in one section, whilst people who didn't really care about it could go somewhere else to keep chatting without disturbing it... TV screens also good ("we've got our own cinema!").... Also I love love love love LOVE doing the march on the day when the roads are pedestrianised. That turns it from fun to FANTASTIC. It really makes a huge difference. I hope they keep doing that, and that we can keep timing it to match, because it's awesome.


• Do you have any marvellous ideas for the next Karmageddon (such as an ace venue, a cool theme, auction ideas etc.)?
No marvellous ideas from me...... again, if I think of something, I'll let you know.

Btw I didn't just choose option 1 for them all just for the hell of it... I actually thought hard, and they were just the ones that fit best.

I think just for the ease of typing and because my mouse is being temperamental in selecting text that to all 5 questions, the answer is no.1

I will say Silent auction wise that it could have maybe done with being a bit more visible (it was a tad hidden)

Least favourite element of the day?
I think the positioning of the speech/auction and such actually. I thought the speeches were great, but I think it may have worked better in the section where the silent auction was being carried out. I understand why it was closer to the bar (more people around), but I think the pillar got in the way, and was a tad too loud at points.

Favourite element?
The venue. I think you found the perfect one right there. I also liked the link to the screens with the picture slideshow in the other half of the venue.

Marvellous ideas for next K?
Other than donating something else to the auction, I don't know. I'm assuming all the films/bands/etc with 7 in the title will be looked at so I'll leave it at that.

And seriously, it was the best K I've attended; most well-organised and just most comfortable generally.

When I saw this thread title I smiled enormously — because I thought, "I really don't have ANY negative feedback". :D

The Regent Street events helped so much -- more than I remember from previous years although I couldn't say why — because the crowds seemed extra willing to just take us at face value.

• The Venue (please score as follows)

1. Excellent, good location, size, layout, service, security, food and drink

I munched a bit of food thanks to Shelli — a veggie choice — and it was όber-yummy! :)

• The Raffle (please score as follows)

1. Grand, tickets easily purchased, well priced, good prizes and well announced

The only thing I can think of to constructively add is that it might be cool, if in any way possible, to have a rough (and it could be announced as rough, and not promissory) timetable — not just read out but perhaps posted on a wall somewhere. You know, something like "7-8: Leader; 8-9: Auction; 9-10: outrageous dancing" :)

This applies to the auction and other items below as well. It would just benefit people planning on nipping out for whatever reason (cigarettes, shops, alternative meals, taking children home, etc.)

• The Auction (please score as follows)

1. Brilliant, great lots, well advertised and displayed, well auctioned

• The Silent Auction (please score as follows)

Excellent AND I got the lot I bid for! Result!

Knowing that Simon would have to take Elliot away! Of course, he would have needed his bed anyway... but yeah, thinking of Max W as well was my only downer. It would be _wonderful_ if we could somehow negotiate _accompanied_ minors being able to stay later, in perhaps a restricted area at least, if there's any way around the law, private club style.

• What was your favourite element of the day? (ideally directly related to the organised bits and/or the venue)

The atmosphere. You just can't beat the feel-good factor. I think it was helped tremendously by our knowing that we had reliable door staff and could all just relax, and that anybody we randomly started talking to in the evening would be a Joinee (or a bemused waiter!)

• Do you have any marvellous ideas for the next Karmageddon (such as an ace venue, a cool theme, auction ideas etc.)?

Bring all those people again. :)

Just one final thing: like Steve says above, it'd be good to tweak the position of the microphone... Danny mentioned, albeit jokingly, that there was a pillar right in front of him, which may have hampered some people's views.

I shall vote option one for all five major points. The idea of staying at Oxford Circus was excellent.

I agree with Steve about the positioning of the speeches. Although conversely, I found it at some points too quiet, and wasn't sure what lot was being auctioned. And I was only twenty feet or so away.

For next year? It could be called KarmaSeven or KarmagedOO7n?

:D Option 1 all the way!

My only slight grump was the young 'uns having to go. You kind of expect with a private booking that that will not be the case. Apart from the really small people, it's so disappointing for the under 18 joinees, and could well lead to the temptation for deception and all it's associated problems.

Every thing else was amazing! I love the 007 idea for next year - glitz and glamour all the way! Mum White xx

Won't bother completing the feedback as i think you know my opinions already...but just summarise for others:

Best venue so far
Auction, raffle and silent auction all great
Very well organised
Loved the idea of having screens that showed Danny's speech and indeed the slide show
Good music
Good security (though a little ott early on :) )
Great company
Great day

I agree with Kierans comments about the timetable so that everyone can see...though I can't complain as I had the most detailed timetable i've ever laid eyes upon, beautifully spell checked ;)

Kieran....the reason the microphone was in that area was due to cabling restrictions...and the cabling hub (i can't remember the technical word for it :rolleyes: ) was located at the bottom of the stairs that led to the toilets. The cabling used was pretty lengthy as it was (that and the fact that it was central)

...oh, and i didn't go on the march but all feedback i've heard has been excellent!

I can't believe I was the the only person to bring paper for impromptu sign making. I'll bring bigger sheets next year.

Top notch all round. Seats in the gents!
Security politely tried to stop me hanging around outside when I showed up in a hoodie, untill I showed them my hand stamps. Thumbs up.

I did an stint promoting this.

Can't think of anything constructive. It was an entirely fabulous day.

I'm not sure how, but the march was more co-hesive this year (I think Goldy must have kept us in better shape). Last year we all kind of drifted up to Oxford Circus, but this year we stayed mostly as one big mob, and mass hugged fairies, and quintupled the size of a choir, and all boogied on down to a tuba.

I like nicking Simitebrong's idea of an Origami Army, and getting the Joinees to make a string of 1000 cranes.

Well I think also all 1's apart from 2 for silent auction. That needs a much bigger "push" through the evening. I think having it though is a good thing.

The venue - big plus on size and layout, but minus on the under 18's and the minimum spend threshold. Have to agree on the dreaded pillar of doom in the way, but understand the technical reasoning

Absolutely love the idea of a 007 theme next year

We could add some "information" slides into the photos playing on the screens - every so often show the timetable, the list of raffle prizes, list of auction lots, info on the charity etc. This might help push the silent auction.

I didn't take part in the march, and we ducked out to eat while the auctiony stuff was happening, so can't comment on those parts, but here are my thoughts about the other bits:






• The Venue

Thought it was a great venue, spacious, comfy and really relaxed and in a great location - plenty of space to sit and chill, or to mingle and chat without getting in other peoples' way or constantly having someone's arse/elbow in your face. It was also a (very welcome) novelty to not be melting within seconds of walking into the place. Thought the screens were incredibly useful, even if people still crowded round the live action. Screens worked for me! I guess the only slight - and they really are slight - downsides for me were that the drinks were still just a little bit expensive. Having said that though, prices were much better than last year, and it didn't make a big enough difference to detract from the rest of the positives in a big way. The other thing was that Andrew waited about an hour for his fish finger sandwich, but I think he was just unlucky.

Overall I think I'm saying a resounding 1, with just a couple of things which would be 2 if I scored all parts individually.

• The Raffle

I bought tickets, but wasn't around for announcements, so as far as I know it all went fine, so it'll be a 1 from me.




• What was your least favourite element of the day? (please be as specific and constructive as possible)

I really enjoyed all of the bits I took part in. I didn't do the march because they're just not really my thing, but that was my choice. Judging from photos and what everyone was saying it seemed to go well. I guess my only downside is the same as Kieran's - the child-friendly thing/not having Max Whitby/others there.

• What was your favourite element of the day? (ideally directly related to the organised bits and/or the venue)

Just the chilled-outness and spaciousness of the venue really. Made me actually want to go back to it after we'd eaten rather than dreading a hot, sweaty, loud place where I'd have to stand up all the time.

• Do you have any marvellous ideas for the next Karmageddon (such as an ace venue, a cool theme, auction ideas etc.)?

Not marvellous ideas, but yep, it would be nice to have a vague idea of when stuff is happening, so if people to want to duck out for anything they know what they might miss. A group of us went to eat even though we knew we'd miss auction stuff etc, and that was fine - our choice, so it doesn't really apply to me, but might be useful for others in the future? Not a biggie though.

Everything was level 1 brilliance. Just organised enough for me to dip in & out as I liked, know exactly what was going on (which is impressive for me) & still not feel remotely channeled or repressed.

Bravo organisers!

I'm going to a rather s#!$&y 007 themed work do this Friday. I'll let you know if there are any particularly good ideas worth stealing.

for next year, K7 is the french term for "cassette" (pronunciation). Many tape labels use the term K7 for a tape.
I think everyone should make a mixtape (on tape, not CDR) and bring it along to swap.

Dunno about K8, but in three years time everyone could bring a dog...............

I didn't attend the march, so would feel it unfair to comment on the whole thing, other than to say, I'd personaly think that 3 hours is a bit of a long time to be out in the cold for everyone...

Felt that this suffered from "the great unknown" with not a lot of people knowing what to do with it...

I know this will be controvertial, but... do we want to think about not being in oxford circus next year..? Would be easier to find a venue that fulfills everybodys needs (kids, young people, space, being able to see, etc...)

This had occured to me. And means I should get a puppy THIS Christmas so it's a DOG in time.

I thought the timing was great (but the weather was good... in the rain, maybe not so great) - 3 hours sounds like a long time, but between 12 and 1 people are just turning up so you're saying excited hellos to everyone, and eating icecream, and then once the march starts it's so much fun that the time just flies by.
That's my POV anyway.
Plus anyone who doesn't want to do it that long will peel off and go somewhere warm anyway.

But I don't think the 2pm prezzie give thing worked? As far as I know, we all just gave stuff out right from the start and all the way through. But then at that time I wasn't really with the main crowd anymore, so I'm not sure....

It was all ace.

I do agree that 3 hours for the march was slighly long in the winter. It went faster than I thought it might, but by about 2-2.30, there were a couple of grumblings about wanting to sit down, get warm, but not many. Maybe setting off a little later?

Only other thing was getting food, as they stopped serving before they were supposed to, but you knew that already.

And I love the idea of a glitzy glam 007 themed night next year!

I thought it was great. So ones all the way down I think! :D

I have no ideas for next year but probably wont be there so will be sulking all the time anyway :P But the 007 idea could be grand, and am happy to contribute anythign I can to helping it run well.

To be honest, I can understand the march being too long (either distance or timewise) for some, but it seemed to work very well as everyone formed into little similarly minded groups that ploughed or plodded up the street at their own respective speeds & us locals were on hand to recommend nice cafes & pubs for rests. I know there were a few sojourns to do just that... & to excitedly spend the Topman vouchers that were being given out. I got Batman socks.

I think it all levelled out really nicely.


If we do 007 next year I'm coming as the Moonraker missile.

I loved the march! It did seem a smidgen long (not a moan) but time passed quick enough as Oxford Circus was mental fun. :D

Pub was ace (but why was it SO dark in the toilets??!!! And why did I see Jase and Biddle coming out of the ladies??! Together. Heehee). Yep, pub was fab. Yummy food and drink and deffo my best K to date.

Everything was awesome. The venue was spot on - the only possible thing I can think to mention is that because there wasn't just one big room this year and the sound didn't carry to the corners a lot of people weren't paying attention to a lot of the announcements and auctiony bits later on, and because it carried on for a while it seemed like only a handful of people were listening at the end. But perhaps that's just my perspective as a skint non-bidder :)

The march, as mentioned elsewhere, was one of the best ever, but to be even better it could have done with more people - the number is rapidly getting smaller every year (not just not so many newbies, but far fewer of the usual crowd and almost no old school joinees) - and to have gone more slowly up Regent Street. Like last year we spent about 45 mins flying up Regent Street stopping just to dance with street acts on the way, then spent the rest of the time in the middle of Oxford Circus. That's great, but people tend to get cold and tired quicker if they're just standing around in one place. If we went more slowly up the road or extended the route I think people wouldn't be so keen to run off to the pub so quickly.
Previously, people have been able to break off into little groups and go at their own pace, but when the initial crowd was so small to begin with that wasn't an option this time round.

Remember that there's a bunch of fantastic joinees that a lot of non-marchers never really meet as they only appear once a year on the Karmageddon march and only come to the pub for a short while!

Just been reading through some comments, and I think the child-friendliness was pretty good, considering Elliott was free to run around, and the bar-staff were hugging him up to and beyond child-chucking out time. For us to have stayed out later, we'd probably have had to arrive later. The littlun had a bit of a cough before and after, probably kept at bay by adrenalin - all in all it was a long day for him. So I wouldn't worry about it.

There's at least 3 of us with (in some cases somewhat vague) unicycling abilities. And it looks like my circus soc is on the verge of buying some stilts (possibly of the bouncy kind), so I could get my hands on those.

I once found some stilts had been left on my doorstep.

It's hard to imagine, even in Brighton, what circumstances could lead someone to go out for the day on their stilts, casually dismount half-way along a residential street, and then wander off home without remembering that they began their journey several feet taller.

SiVar successfully safety-tested them in my garden (and in a rather endearing photograph), and they wound up in a children's home in Ukraine, so at least they didn't go to waste!

Actually, the timings were completely out of my hands. There was an initial plan which was out of my control (but I assure you you'd have loved) that meant we had to arrange to meet at that time and the march needed to last that long. There is no way I'd have asked anyone to have met that early (or in that place) otherwise. Common sense nearly always prevails in my mind, but sometimes it's nice to have a fun plan even if it falls through at the last minute!

I thought this was easily the best K yet, even better than K3 where I got bought by Mark & Apryl and all chaos broke out - and I thought the venue was amazing. Nigh on perfect.

Whilst it didn't personally affect me, I didn't see the age restriction thing as much of a deal. Or that rigerously enforced. As Si has already mentioned I know I saw Elliot sat on the bar after the curfew hour (I think he was enjoying a guiness with a whiskey chaser at the time) and Big Saz & Davey were still present in the evening hours.

Loved it

It has restored my faith in big meets.


I do however want to bring up something John said about the march. I know it went well and people enjoyed it. And I was only there for the final hour so can't really comment but I think it needs a kick up the bott bott a little.

Just that we need some actual signs and an actual presence rather than hastily scribbled A4 sheets (hell, we wouldn't even have had those if Dave hadn't been resourceful)
Not a gripe or a criticism but an idea for 007... Can we get actual signs made and try and make sure as much of us make the march instead of just turning up for the pub?

Christmas vip day is perfect for the march and the hugging is ace but we need to spread the message better.

Mega Brill, I was leading it for crying out loud, nuff said, Though I do think Mr Armatiage hit the nail on the head come on people it's like 2ish hours out of drinking time next year lets glam it up and make the RAOKs look great as well as BE great, I want to see a better turnout next year for sure.

As for the length of time it "could" have been cut short by say 30 mins but I honestly could stand there most of the day given a personal PA system and love every minute of it :) but seriously 2hours and 45 mins of the 3 hours flew by, Regent Street being blocked off and entertained was a massive bonus and helped no end.

1. Excellent, Loved the venue and the staff, had plenty of space for dancing and mingling, top marks

Only thing I could say is get a venue where the under 18's can stay longer it doesn't have to be on the march route all we need to know is how to get there and I the perverbial joinee shepherd (with my pink hi-vis vest) will take the flock to the location :)

I'm afraid I don't do the marches anymore. Mainly because I don't like them but also the idea of following someone with a loud speaker and a pink jacket...even if it is Goldy

Please no theme for K7 it's managed without one for 6 years without people having to dress up or act to the theme.

Following on with comments about the march and why people might not do it:

It seems to have turned into 'kids' running around willy nilly with stupid signs, attacking people with hugs (whether the recipient wants them or not).
Without wanting to sound like someone's grandma, frankly it's a bit embarrassing and distasteful. I'm not above embarrassing myself, it happens all too frequently, but tripping over my feet is one thing, being part of a crazed crowd is something else altogether. I liked when it was more handing out of cards and gifts, having a quick chat with someone who's interested in what we're doing. From what I've witnessed, it's become more of an opportunity for 'wackiness' and "Look at me! Look at MEEEEEE!!!!" attention-seeking rather than simply an exercise in fun and doing something nice for others.

I'm certainly not a 'run off to the pub to drink' person. Maybe a 'run off to the pub so I can talk to my friends a bit more' person, which is understandable given I travel nearly 5000 miles for the weekend. Last year, when I did exactly that, it made me incredibly happy. That said, I used to enjoy the march until it became something completely different.

If others like it, that's awesome. We should all have a day that makes us happy. :)

It's not being pedantic to point out that this year was subtly themed, and that theming doesn't have to be garish and overbearing.
