Do you like colouring?
Do you like helping out charity?
Do you relish the opportunity to put anything you want onto the side of a car?

As some of you may be aware, Captain K, Wilf and Richard ‘The Daddy’ are doing the Scumball Rally in April next year and have to raise money in sponsorship which goes to the charity designated by Scumball (I’m fairly sure they said it’s a Children’s charity)

So…that’s where you come in. We will be asking people to buy squares of ‘advertising’ on the car, in good old motor racing tradition, with the money going into the charity pot for Scumball. Then you can decorate that square in what ever way you like (I have a couple of ideas up my sleeve ;) )

It’ll be nice and simple…you’ll get a square of vinyl and you simply draw your design onto it. Closer to race day, your squares will be added to the car before it leaves on its epic journey!

We will have squares and other implements at K:VI at the weekend, and Emily has kindly set aside a drawing area for us in the pub.

There will also be the option of posting the squares out to people if they’d like to get involved, and then can return them with their beautiful designs on. We shall sort a way of getting money to us once K is out of the way.

So there you! Hopefully we can get a load of people involved and send the boys off in the most beautiful Scumball car ever seen!

Are we allowed to add "Top Gear" type slogans?

Man love Rules was my personal favourite.

The 2008 rally started from Arena Essex where we were on duty - there were some great cars (and a few wrecks!)

They have yet to announce the 2009 starting point, but as the ferry this year is from Portsmouth I'm guessing they will not be back at Arena

The 2008 charity was Whizzkids, raising £56k, and I believe in 2009 it's CHASE Childrens' Hospices

:D :D Mememe! *Starts to get even more excited.* What a wonderful idea, Laura. It means that they will be able to travel enclosed in the love and good wishes of all their friends, as well as raising lots of money! Mum White xx

Yay for this plan! Don't forget that you can buy more than one square if you have a big design in mind... :)

Thanks Darren for the extra info: the ferry is indeed from Portsmouth (to Le Havre) and anyone interested in waving us off (and probably therefore ending up on the official DVD, potentially with Join Me banners?) will be very welcome!

The charity is indeed CHASE. Here's the Scumball's press release about them:

Quote

Scumball 3000 are delighted to announce CHASE hospice care for children as the nominated charity 2009.

CHASE was suggested to the team by Paul Gandar, a long term supporter of the event, and Scumball 3000 veteran.

Paul comments: “I co-own a company with 3 other guys. One of them has a life-limited daughter, and CHASE is a lifeline to the family. CHASE provides a range of care, including regular home visits, short breaks at Christopher’s, therapy and emotional support. It humbles me when I see how their lives are affected, when I take for granted simple things like the ability to go shopping or to the pub. CHASE helps them in so many ways – I don’t know how they would cope without their support. I can’t tell you what it means to me to be able to raise money for a charity, knowing the people they support, and witnessing the huge difference they make.”

CHASE is a children's hospice service which provides a network of care to families with life limited children in SW London, Surrey and Sussex. CHASE community team members focus on help for the whole family at home and in their community where it is so vital they receive sustained support. Families are also welcomed at the children's hospice called Christopher's just outside Guildford. The CHASE service is provided 365 days per year at no cost to the families themselves.

“We are really pleased to be working with CHASE this year. The care team at Christopher’s are incredibly dedicated and the work they do is astonishing. As the event grows our teams pull out the stops, raising a great deal for the charity in various wacky ways! We hope 2009 will be no exception, and we’re really excited at the prospect of supporting such a great cause.” Scumball 3000 team

Jenny Edwards, CHASE Head of Fundraising said: “We are absolutely thrilled that Ed White and his team have chosen to support CHASE hospice care for children, through the fourth event. They have done an incredible job organising this event in previous years raising a fantastic amount of money for charity. Scumball 3000 has quickly become established and well known both nationally and internationally and CHASE welcomes being involved in this exciting venture in 2009. We are looking forward to working with the team to ensure that the 2009 event is every bit as successful, and more, than previous years.”

A new prize will be introduced in 09 for the single team raising the highest amount for CHASE.

"life-limited" ?? Is that an actual phrase?? What a horrible phrase! Obviously it's a horrible thing in the first place, but that's a rubbish way of putting it.

Boo.

I shall draw Nelson Mandela on a Jetski. It shall be better than Danny's version of Nelson Mandela on a jetski.

Actually, it probably won't be better. And Danny's one was quite rubbish to start with. ;)
