As you're aware there's been some discussion about Eurovision and whether or not to have it on in the pub at Loverpool. Now we have some ideas for games and stuff we can do either way, so we're just trying to get a feel for what people would prefer.

Yeah, it is kinda my fault.

I was just absolutely gutted at that moment when we realised that Liverpool is on the Eurovision night.

I've been wanting to go to that live Eurovision party at the cinema for many years, and this is the first year I've been able to get tickets. And I had a bevvy of lovely lesbians to go with!*

But I know how daft it'd be to live in Liverpool and not be at Loverpool.

Hence the plea, folks: don't take the music away from me!**

I'd love to watch it.  Especially as we actually have a half-decent song this year.  Seeing as it's in the pub then I think that's an excellent compromise.  Those who want to, can ignore it, and the rest of us can laugh and get upset at the proceedings at will.

I'll join you.  Actually it might not be so bad if there is an anit eurovison crowd all trying to survive it through alcohol and synicism.

More than happy for Eurovision.

I'm in on the shot action.

We should start a sweepstakes too. Everyone pays money in and gets a country then they cheer them on and then the one that wins should win a small prize (like a beer). The rest can go to charity

*Pedant alert"

Actually the Irish entry is a turkey, not a chicken.

Do we get to choose a country and bring food/drink associated with them? I know it's tough on whoever gets Estonia, but it makes for an interesting buffet!

Right, realistically don't think the food thing is an option.

But we were thinking of doing a Eurovision sweepstake to make the results a little more 'meaningful' and raise some money for charity.  We will bulk that idea out a little, but just to give you an idea what we're thinking...

I'm going to be really upset now if the pub won't let us use the TV this year...

Unfortunately, in a classic Claire move, I clicked 'don't mind' rather than 'yes'.  But as the ayes seem to have it, I'm not unduly concerned :).

And we can Wii it up on the Sunday night as well.

The entries for 2003, 2004 and 2005 were chosen via an X-Factor-style 'talent' show.
Their results in Eurovison were 11th, 23rd and failing to qualify...after those results, the talent show idea was abandoned.

Brian Kennedy was the Irish entry in 2006 and came 10th. Dervish competed in 2007 and came 24th...these two are established artists.

Shouldn't it be 'connect M1 to W1'? or 'M1 to F1'?

I think the ikea instructions should come with a diagram of some sort, in true ikea style.

Did you guys end up watching this then? Don't have time to read thru all the threads. We got tickets to the dress rehearsal the night before so we watched the whole show in the Arena (bar the voting of course) for super cheap. Fun and a half. Though I was sat next to an elderly Serbian man who showed no emotion or enjoyment throughout the entire show except for a bit of foot-tapping when Denmark's entry was on.
