AHOY THERE NORTHERNERS! (Either proper or honorary.)

The time has come to start our proper preparations for North vs. south IV.

Our magnificent Chairman, Benjamin Ranner has already began sourcing sponsors and kit.

I'm proud to announce we now have an official Manager in Richard Bennett (I don't think we've told him yet.)

We have a new captain also. May I just say thankyou for those who nominated me. I'm honoured to be granted this position. I'll do The Ginger Kaiser proud whilst he's away, and inspire and drive the team to bring The Shards home.

All we need now is players. Can I have names of ANYONE who'd like to play, as well as a brief description of how much you play football, plus where you like to play? Just pop them in this thread.

NOTE: Absolutely no ability is required at all (south won it last year FFS!)

All that you need is heart, determination, and a strong stomach to play in the morning after the heavy night of drinking we'll do before.

I'll start:

Name: Thomas Edward Peter Rushton

Age: 23

Position: Centre-back/Sweeper

GGFNVS History: I played the first half of NvS II for Team North, before making a multi-million pound transfer to team south for the second half to make up numbers. Needless to say my heart wasn't in it, and I'm pleased to say I finished the game on the losing team.
In NvS III I started at left back before moving into the centre mid way through the game. At this point I formed a formidable defensive partnership with Shaun during which I believe the south didn't score a single goal. I hope to continue that form this year.

Other info: I don't play any sport from day to day, last time I played football was GGF last year. I'm bossy, confident and vocal during sports fixtures though, which makes me ideal as a standin captain :)

Name: Annie Meek (actually Anne Claire Meek but ho hum)

Age: 18

Position: Gin drinker/cheerleader. I can be provoked to get aggressive if needs be.

GGFNVS History: GGF4 was my first big meet ever. I was mostly drunk. Richard Bennet gave me champagne cos he is wonderful. I plan on doing the North proud by again drinking my own body weight in gin and cheering my little arse off.

Other info: Free smooches for the winners (If they would like them) Northerners do NOT make me have to smooch a Southerner. I refuse to accept defeat!! I have no actual skill in football- although I am quite good in goal but I refuse to play! I'll only humilate myself.

As an honorary member of team north (given that my sister lives in leeds), here is my football CV

Name: Steve Christopher Vancouver Gray (or jsut Stevie G for short)

Age: 19

Position: Goalkeeper/Winger/Anything that involves running

GGFNVS History: None

Other info: I do running, exemplified in the running and preparation to run the 2006 and 2008 marathons respectively. I also swim. So if it rains a lot, fear not. I was a hockey goalie for a while. And their balls are much harder. Plus I can win stuff on Football Manager.

Edit: Retardary

Not sure what my plans for Easter are yet, would love a game if I'm at GGF though:-

Name: Jason Smith

Age: 39 (by the time GGF comes round)

Position: Goalkeeper/Striker

GGFNVS History: Being a Highlander, I played for the North in the first ever NvS football match. I confounded Gatesey by jogging slowly towards him and pushing him over when I eventually caught him. Phillips seem less perturbed and tackled me in football boots and shin guards which I felt was a bit unfair given I had trainers on. North won the moral victory that day. Our star striker Rothwell* scored while wearing a long coat and trainers. Even back then the Southern nonces had matching football kit.

Other info: It's not really a proper game though is it? I'd be more at home if we could run with the ball (which was more elongated in shape).

:pirate:

Jason

*possibly Rem, can't remember, it was that long ago.

I've edited the thread title in an attempt to keep the rifraf out.

GGFNVS History: I attended GGF3 and descovered that contry to my previous believe football can be fun. at GGF4 I attempted sabortage by plying Martin Kneller with tequila (I got him into trouble with the captin and everything) and then wore a flat cap and shouted.

Name: Philip Michael Hatchard

Age: 26

Position: Left Wing

GGFNVS History: I played the first half of NvS II for Team North, overlapping effectively with Thomas Rushton on the left of the field. I went on to score our second goal, giving us a 2-1 lead. I was blatantly cropped in the last minute of normal time by Martin Kneller, who then went on to set up the resulting equaliser for Team South. I then limped off while my brave friends won 5-4 in extra time.
In NvS III I played mostly in left midfield, but post-viral fatigue meant I wasn't full strength. I was a bit poo really.

Other info: I run a bit. And I teach maths. So I'm good at angles and therefore passing the ball accurately.

GGF NVS History: I played a quiet role in my first GGF but last year became much more active, even to the extent of buying flat caps for the squad and writing chants in advance of the day.

If I am there again this year, expect more of the same.

I'm still confused. I don't know whether I qualify as a northerner or a southerner. I grew up in Devon, my mum's side of the family's from Northampton and my Dad's side is from Exmouth, and I now live in Hull. Help?

On the other hand, I don't know that I can come to GGF, and my footballing skills are, at best, abysmal. Couldn't we play a proper sport, like rugby?

Strictly speaking, you need only the thinnest spread excuse to play for either team. It's like when English footballers are crap so they trace back their heritage to find their mother's aunt's nextdoor neighbour's cousin's pet hamster was Irish, so they play for them instead.

As for playing a proper game, finding a rugby pitch in a local park at Easter is much more difficult.

afternoon.

Ben, Tom, i'll be in touch when i've got a keyboard. That said, do we really want our team skills so public?

Hello!

Andrew's asked me to tell you he's up for playing - he's not on the forum much at the mo.

Just keep him or me posted!

I will, of course, be taking up my traditional role of hurling abuse at Team South. Unless it's pissing it down, in which case, I'll be in the pub!

:D

Welcome back Phil. I'm still awaiting the entries of Spaca, Worm, Sivar, Andrew and others. Does anyone know if Rem and Matt Bee will be playing? Can anyone find out? I'm eagerly awaiting more new talent too!

I've confirmed spaca. Can't say beyond that at the moment.

Southern maths?!

I count 7 in this thread, plus Sivar and Worm are all but definites. We just need word on both Jamies, Rem and Matt Bee then we have enough for a team and some subs already!

You're still going to loose.

Fine, you'll lose too. In loose clothing, or... something.

Nah, we're wearing leotards this year. Not a loose piece of clothing in sight.

I'm still confused. I don't know whether I qualify as a northerner or a southerner. I grew up in Devon, my mum's side of the family's from Northampton and my Dad's side is from Exmouth, and I now live in Hull. Help?

Whichever you choose, play for the team that you feel strongest allegiance to. I trust you'll make the correct decision.

Anyway...
