The area around that industrial estate was one of the few places I could park Truck, and it's also where he got broken into five (count 'em) times. But it is pretty convenient for the meet.
Alternatively, when approaching Brighton on the A23, take the Lewes turning on the left, and head for Lewes on the bypass (A27) which will avoid hideous A23 bottleneck traffic. You turn off for "Hollingbury / Industrial estate" and head straight up the hill after that - don't turn right INTO the industrial estate. Then you get a left for Ditchling (don't take it), and very quickly after that a right, over a bridge. That's Ditchling Road, which ends up very central in Brighton. Go along it all the way over the hill, through Fiveways, and take a right on Vere Road or Warleigh Road. You'll get the most central free parking there is.

I parked for free last year and took the park and ride, takes a bit of being cheeky but after I did it about 20 cars copied me, I was the only one left at like 7pm in the middle of a main road but didn't get a ticket or anything so whevs! Anyway basically go to the sign posted park and ride but just park in the road next to it instead of in it

Last time i stayed the night i overslept a bit and ended up legging it down my mate's road like a loon trying not to get a ticket. In addition, pretty much every single street anywhere near the centre of town at all has become permit / pay to park (which pissed of the residents a treat). I'm pretty sure that road Warren's talking about is now paid parking.
So, if you must bring a car, it costs roughly £9 a day (i am told) to park in a residential street, and a rather lot more in a car park (70p per 15 mins in the centre!?!?!).
In other words, train seems like a good idea.

The train is indeed a good idea.
For anybody who absolutely must have a car and absolutely must have it near to the beach, I still have some daily residents parking permits for the central zone. They cost me (a little) money, though, and I can't get any more. And they're incredibly useful when I visit, which I do quite often, so I'm not offering them for convenience, only for real need - like people with special goodies they need to keep in the car, or a really overpowering phobia that may mean they need to hide in their car at short notice. You get the idea.
Oh, and anybody thinking £9 a day for the normal spaces isn't too bad should consider that you're only allowed 2-4 hours (varying) per space, so you'd have to move twice as well.
