So, what would you like to see at Brighton 2007?

Reverse plundering?

Treasure Hunt?

Beach Games?

Let us know so we can get summit sorted....

Sitting on the beach and drinking morgan spice and having a picnic, and then maybe getting some noodles and going on some rides, and then perhaps a trip to a club and sweating an awful lot, and then some waking up and feeling ill and getting some breakfast, and then going to the pier and playing, and then sitting in the pub, then going home.

All the activity we will need :D

Some kind of parade with dancing girls, giant inflatable monkeys & fireworks would be neat. But I appreciate the modicum of awkardness involved in that, so I can live without.

Beach BBQing has been done previously, but it's still not allowed by the council and police and so on. Other groups on the beach on any given Saturday will also be doing it, and you'd probably get away with it, but you'd definitely run the risk of being shut down / told off and then having to make alternate arrangements for food.

Sleeping out on the beach is an interesting experience. It's not an experience which contains much actual "sleep" though - and unless you prepare fairly properly you'd get surprisingly cold. I didn't do it last year and I'm not doing it this year (I did it in 2005 though). I'll most likely just take a train back towards home in the evening.

In case you change your mind:

http://www.brighton-...equest=c1000184

This is a guide on how and where to barbecue safely on Brighton and Hove's beaches. This information has been updated from last year so please tell your friends and family about the new rules.

You may not barbecue between the two piers in Brighton or on any of the beaches between Medina Villas and the bottom of Hove Street.

You may barbecue on any other beach within the Brighton & Hove Boundary.

Please do not bring glass on to our beaches.
Do

* only light barbecues after 6pm.
* contain barbecues in a metal tray.
* raise barbecues above the pebbles to prevent them getting hot and burning people once you have left the beach.
* douse the barbecue with cold water once you have finished to ensure the fire is out and the coals are cold.
* dispose of your litter in the bins provided when you leave. Any food remains should be well wrapped before being placed in a bin.

Don't

* light a fire. This is extremely dangerous to other beach users and has caused serious injuries in the past.
* cover up hot stones with cold ones. (Cold stones shatter when they warm up and can cause injury)
* leave your litter behind.
* bring glass bottles on to the beach.
* play amplified music.
* have more than twenty people at your gathering.

If you require any further information or advice on barbecuing safely on Brighton & Hove's Beaches please contact the Seafront Office on (01273) 292716 or email us.

I spoke to the seafront office and they say that so long as no tents are erected they have no objection to sleeping on the beach.

Oooh, good to know they do Officially Allow BBQing outside of the busiest patch of beach!

I've seen people camp out on the beach in full proper tents before, so I guess it's not something they chase up unless there's a huge number of 'em at once.

Thank God for that. For a second there I thought this was going to be an organised event.

Yes. I believe these will be the likely activities:

Being on beach.
Reading the new Harry Potter book (for some).
Drinking rum.
Eating food.
Hill rolling (maybe).
Rubbing suncream into each other (hopefully).

Permission / regulations / etc.: barbecues and bonfires are allowed, but you have to get a license for each one from the beach superintendent. Yes, really!

I vote for,

Sitting on Beach
Dressing up in a Piratical fashion
Eating picnic
Swimming
Going to pier
Going on a roller coaster with Phil Hatchard and fearing for my white skirt

Shall I picnic thread and dressing up competition thread separately?

Oh, and I've found the Joinee Jolly Roger so if Mum White is able to bring hers, or anyone else who has one, I shall bring that along.

Realistically this isn't going to happen. I can't be bothered to get a license & Tim & Becky will feel even more lethargic about it than I do. It'd be a bit of a risk to turn up with all the appropraite equipment & food on the off-chance of being able to ask on the day.

The only activites we should need are:

Saturday:
Eat.
Drink.
Swim.
Chat.
Read.
Go clubbing.
Rape & Pillage (optional).

Sunday:
Eat.
Drink.
Go to Horatio's.
Go on the waltzers.
Go back to Horatio's.

We've got a new pirate flag - it's got a skull drinking rum on it and some words that are a bit amusing, but I can't remeber what they are. It's big though. And needs a pole. Maybe I could wear it "toga" style as my costume...

That's what I meant! What a ninny I am!

I seem to remember somebody else mentioning they had a flag pole so maybe we could use that to fly the Sweeneys' flag too. I really missed the Joinee Jolly Roger last year- it was a good way to let everyone know where we were, and a bit of advertising too!
