Despite the fact that not a single one of you has given me cause to, I do still feel quite bad about breaking the trophy.
I know there ws fun talk about glueing it back together, or keeping it in the box etc, but I do wdo send the bill my way, I'll continue to feel terrible if you don't (yes, I am for some reason attempting to guilt-trip you into making me spend money  ).

I love you all, and thank you for just being generally amused at my clumsiness where many people would've gotten at least very slightly miffed.

This is a positive thing. No question.

What better excuse to put all the bits into an urn and fight over that every year?

What do you mean "that's been done before" - bah. The Ashes will be a sporting minnow compared to this.

Naturally, and very much like the Ashes - the urn will have to stay in the Glorious South* for "tradition".

*feel free to shout me down on this one. i don't mind really ;)

Angie, it was worth you breaking the trophy just to see Gatesy's little face all heartbroken when he found out!!

Honestly, though, don't get drawn into thinking, because of all the banter, that anyone really takes our little kickabout *that* seriously. I've been involved in all three games since the rain-soaked, six-a-side debacle of 2005 and the trophy doesn't really doesn't mean that much to me.... though that's perhaps because I broke the first one (and somehow managed to blame Holly!!)

Don't feel bad. I like the suggestion of now playing for the "ashes"... presumably the "ashes" of northern football. Tehehehe.

I've been drinking wine.

And I just watched Knight Rider.

Hopefully Nat's roast dinner will be ready soon or I'm going to be battered.

Nat just burped in my face.

I think I'm going a little off topic now. Probably time to stop typing.

It's not that broken! Just has to be glued back together AGAIN.

Actually, I was going to take it home and tinker with it, to fix it, and then deposit it in The Cock (it's rightful home), but as I wasn't actually on the team as such (I don't think being the South's most red shoe wearing supporter really counts), thought best to let one of them take it dahn Sahff.

So who actually has the trophy?

I think we should get a proper trophy and put the shards in it.

The Shards of northern football doesn't really have the same ring to it though...

PLUS a proper trophy wouldn't break. We wouldn't need anything huge! altho something the size of the european cup would be quite funny.

The Shards [TM] are resting here in Blackheath. We have an old glass-fronted computer rack downstairs (really, don't ask) so we might be able to set up a sort of display cabinet. Then people could come round to see them. We might get Nottingham Mark to use an old Dyson to rig up a sort of cyclone animated display with them... ;)

So, we're playing for the Smashes next year then? Jolly good.

OK, I'm going to go out on a limb and suggest this:

CLICKY

What we have here is a blank trophy with:

1. A lid for holding The Shards

2. A blank base for engraving the winners

3. Is over a foot tall

I've got in on "watch", so if I get a suitable number of positive replies in the next 19 hours, I'll go ahead and buy it. Anyone who wants to contribute to the cost can donate some money to the 24 Peaks fund.

I believe the Rough Guide are hunting your address for the next edition as we type ;)

And apologies for the banter yesterday, fella  I probably deserved a yellow as well

As for the trophy:

I ran a half marathon in 2 hours a fortnight ago and was fine the next day.
Today, thanks to my hamstrings, I can barely walk.
I sneezed earlier and thought I had broken a couple of ribs.

I'm therefore thinking that the trophy's demise is an eloquent metaphor for my physical condition.

I can't believe my trophy has been broken AGAIN. Do you know how much work went into the 2005 original?

Toby reckoned his Dad could make a nice wooden receptacle in which to keep The Smashes.
