How about we have a general games evening? The upstairs function room at the Old Joint Stock is ideal - plenty of chairs and tables, and no-one else coming through to bother us.

As well as Risk, we could do Cranium , Trivial Pursuit (or Terminal Boredom as a friend of mine once called it), Monopoly, and for those looking for a cerebral challenge, Kerplunk, Buckaroo, Mousetrap and Twister.

Logistically it could be a bit tricky as different games take different lengths of time to complete. Bear with me whilst I think out loud:

Maybe have 3 categories:
1)Risk-style games which could take a whole evening;
2)Monopoly and Trivial Pursuits which can be done in a couple of hours, and
3)Shorter games like Pictionary and Cranium which can be done in around an hour.
4) card games - traditional games and others like Aquarius, (ahhh my brain!), Flux etc.
5) Silly quick games in a Buckaroo stylee

(edit cause I've just seen I put 5 categories)

And then how about you can choose either to play one game of Risk, or 2 or 3 other games from categories 2-4, and a selection of silly games once you've finished.

We could even go all technological and (if we can get a laptop and projector) get the results on a spreadsheet and a screen. Ah the fun of last year's quiz: "Let's see what it's done to the graph!"

I'm just bouncing ideas around here at the moment. What does anyone else think?

Oh and of course we would charge a small entry fee per game to help those gosh-darned-lovely 24 peakers!

Permission to get a little excited?

Grand idea. I shall bring Tumblin' Monkeys.

How about a poker tournament? Have an entry fee so that the winner can get a trophy, with the rest going to the 24 Peaks?

You don't get to choose, I'm afraid. It's basically a process of self-nomination.

That is to say, the victim is the person who falls asleep in the pub/club/sofa/wherever. You pile coats etc onto them until they move. The person who makes them move is the loser.

Hungry Hungry Hippos is BRILLIANT!!

My friend has this ACE game - I think it's called Bedlam or something - and you have a board which has lots of pictures on it, and you all have cards with the same pictures on. And when you land on a certain picture, you have to collect as many of those pictures from everyone else as possible. So, say you land on a picture of a plane. You then turn over the eggtimer and spend the next minute yelling "PLANE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I NEED PLANES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! EVERYONE GIVE ME YOUR GOD DAMN AEROPLANES!!!!!!!!!!!! PPPLLLAAAANNNNNNEEEEE!!" at the top of your voice. Whilst everyone else is also yelling out their demands. And then everyone will give you their cards with plane pictures on. Unless someone else needs a plane too... then you have to fight to the death (slight exaggeration).

It is possibly one of the most fun games in the world. Unless you have a sore throat.

I just wanted to share.

All I can think of now though is a combined version of kerplunk and hungry hungry hippos. Not sure how it'd work, but it would dammit, haha.

When you make the marbles fall, they go into a collective bottom pool, where everyone tries to gobble them. The one with the most marbles wins.

OR...

When you gobble them, you get to give them to whoever you like, and the one with the least marbles wins. Easy, and genius.

Sorry but I feel compelled to add this quote

Quote

"I wanted Hungry Hungry Hippos."
"And what did you feel when you didn't get it?"
"Regret!"

"I am the white Beyonce"
"Tobias Clayton. Destroyer of Glassware."
"In a world where Myth and History have combined to create Mystery..."

Hi all. I've got several versions of RISK and here's the thing. I don't mind bringing them but I'm gonna need to know FOR DEFINATE who is gonna want to play RISK. I don't mind bringing it but it'll be a complete waste of time if people just change their mind and would rather just drink instead. Can people TEXT me on 0-785-403-7662 and confirm and then I'll see if I can bring them.
Bless ya, ya little ego-maniacal warmongering sods!
