Sorry to be the bearer of bad news (especially on the 100th reply) but I might not be able to do this now :(
Personal circumstances may change rather quickly and if they do, I'll be living in the UK again by September.
I'm meeting up with some of the other Irish Joinees on Saturday (2nd June) and we'll try and thrash out some way that it can still go ahead.
But if not, then I'm afraid I'll have to cancel the meet.

I really hope I don't have to but there may be no choice. Sorry :(

What Del means to say, of course, is that he may have to transfer the job of planning this meet. I'm not naturally the organising type—I don't think I'm very good at it—but I won't be sitting back to watch this meet fall apart.

OK, the Dublin JoinMeet Organising Commitee, i.e me, Rory, and Linda (joinee_hippy_chick) convened yesterday afternnon and have made concrete plans for this meet

It WILL be on the 8th and 9th September.
We have a venue.
We have a RAoK-ing route - this may be a RAoK challenge, it may not.
We have a Duck-boat-tour-thing - but better than Liverpool, because we have Viking helmets! RAAAR!
We have pub-based funnage, including something that we think has never been done before (ansd almost certainly not in this form!)
We will have Mix-CD distribution
We will have spare time for you to go and do touristy things if you wish (or to go to the pub!)
We are *hoping* to have a minibus or similar to collect people from the airport.

Points to consider:
Dublin is NOT cheap. No Travelodges or anything similar I'm afraid. There are some accomodation ideas further up the thread. There are hostels and B&Bs around though.
Nor are there any Wetherspoons-type '2 meals for £6' pubs. Well, not that we found... To give you an idea, full Irish breakfast is about €8 (about £5.50)
If we can't arrange a minibus, you can get busses from the airport and the ferry ports direct to the City Centre.
The RAoK-ing route includes cobbles. I would advise against high heels :D
The Viking tour costs €20 (about £13) - if we get 28 people, we can book out the duck-boat-thing and get a discount.

Erm...can't think of anything else just at the moment. Any questions, feel free to PM one of us (although my access is rather sporadic for the next two weeks)

Matt...could we have a sticky please?

I'll be back at Uni in Bangor by then sooooooo... I'm coming. For at least one day, the ferry from Holyhead will sort me out and I can trip back across the sea and sleep in my lovely new house (Providing the landlord has stayed true to his word and finished refurbishments by the time we get there)

Does anyone need a bed? It will involve leaving the merriment of Dublin at some point and getting on the ferry, then a short trip to my place but it will be free.

No guarantees that there will be a bed yet, I haven't been to the house other than to look round and sign the contract (It's a crackin pad though!) and there's always the chance that it won't quite be livable - but that's unlikely.

More details closer to the time, but to give me a rough estimate how many people need free beddage in Bangor?

Ryanair have a free flights offer on at the moment for flights during September and October. Availability is bound to be limited but you might be lucky!

Breaking news:

In a disappointing contradiction of the seemingly waterproof subtitle of this thread ("It's ON. Definitely. 100% for certain sure.") this meet is now not happening. Unfortunately it seems that apart from a couple of enthusiastic people (who I'm still itching to meet) there just isn't enough interest, and I'm not about to try to convince anyone to trek all the way over when I know there won't be more than a handful of attendees.

Still, there was a lot of initial interest, so there's hope that this could happen at some point further in the future.

See you at Chester/K5/elsewhere.

That's a shame. I would have been there if I didn't have children
If you hear of something bad happening in Halifax... I did it!
