Meals included on day and night sailings
Alternatively, Holyhead offers fast-ferries (1hr 40 or so) but they don't run in bad weather.Normal cruise ferry is about 3hr 30 I think...

Karmageddon I know is in December, Brighton is July (?) and GGF is April
So it looks like May is fairly empty?
If so, I propose one of the May Bank Holidays or maybe early June?

For a one-day meet, how early do things generally kick off? What kind of activities generally take place?
I read in the book that there was a mass RAoK at K1 (or was it GGF1 ?) and I guess that still carries on?
What about evening festivities? Group meal? Group drinking? Group going-to-watch-a-gig?
And if it's a weekender, what time do things get going on the second day? Not too early, I guess
And wind up around mid-afternoon-ish?
I'm still thinking about this Dublin idea and am trying to get more info on the Viking Splash tour that Da Vinci mentioned

- meet around lunchtime somewhere prominent. Get someone to hold up a sign
- do lots of raoks
- go to the pub
- get some food somewhere. "Table for 54, please!"
- go back to the pub
- on the day after (assuming it's a Sunday), chill out in the park
You can't go that wrong with that formula, but it really depends on the location, what's happening in the area, numbers, interests, capable and knowledgeable local joinees, etc.
Good luck! Would love to consider hopping over.

Saturday
Meet about 1 o'clock in St Stephens Green.
Disperse about 2 o'clock for some free hugging and mass RAoKage
Retire to pub about 4 o'clock
(or other touristy things like Book of Kells, Guinness Storehouse etc)
Grub about 7 o'clock
More pub or gig or something like that
Retire to chambers at about 2am (this *is* Dublin don't forget
Sunday
Viking Splash tour about 12 o'clock
Leave for home about 3 o'clock-ish
How does that sound to peoples? Any other thoughts?
Viking Splash can be done in the evening if we'd prefer?

The splash tour is very good and I'd highly recommend it.
There are loads of bars, a number of them are huge all arounds Stephen's green and temple bar so we would have loads to choose from.
Del,
I'm happy to help out with organising if you'd like a hand.

However, might be better to avoid a BH weekend or school holidays to make sure there are cheaper flights available?

Weekend of 30 Jun / 1st Jul
After exams for those that have them, prior to summer holidays, in that dull period so to speak, and far enough away from Orange day to avoid busy weekend flights
Any good for you?

GGF in mid April
Liverpool in early June
Glasgow in late June
Brighton in mid July
Inverness in late July
Chester in late October
Karmageddon in early December
So late August looks perfect...
But as Darren mentioned, that's school holiday time, peak family holiday time and therefore an expensive time for flights and ferries...

I would say first week but it's my wedding anniversary on the 4th
[Edit] just had a quick look at Aer Lingus. (Ryanair don't have schedules up yet) Leaving Heathrow on the 8th Sept and back on the 9th, fares range from £1 out/£5 back to £29 out/£39 back each way per person, plus taxes etc, depending on flight time

I'd like FAB FEB to happen again next year!
Last year's was good!
(Edit to say that for those of you who don't know, FAB FEB was a meet in Birmingham, the first weekend in February. It is even an acronymn: Fun Around Birmingham For Every Body) (Copyright Simon Bishop!)
Hmmmm, better start putting some feelers out . . .
Anyway, back to Dublin . . . How about early March? flights would be cheap-ish and the city wouldn't be too crowded, so easier to find accomodation . . .

Apart from the mahoosive meets like Karmageddon and GGF, how many people would you expect at a two-day meet?
There have been 21 expressions of interest on this thread.
There are 64 Joinees in Ireland according to the directory - say 20% come along - 13 people
Plus randoms that might join in, especially as I want to speak to some people in the media who I reckon would love it.
Say a total of 50? Would that count as a big meet or a little meet or somewhere in between?
Hmm...56 would be perfect as that's two loads for the Splash Tour (28 to a boat)

I haven't seen large increases in charges for flights when I've been lookign to fly but I could have been lucky.

It's almost certainly going to be the 8th/9th September but I'll have to check and make sure there's no big sporting events going on that might clash with us (I don't think there will be...)
So any ideas for a good name? 'Danny Boy' is obviously begging to be used in some way
Proposed itinerary is:
More pub or gig or something like that
Retire to chambers at about 2am (this *is* Dublin don't forget )
Sunday
Viking Splash tour about 12 o'clock
Leave for home about 3 o'clock-ish

You don't HAVE to have a passport!
A valid Photo ID (eg new style driving licence) should do.
But check with individual airlines/ferry companies...
