Pirates RAoK Brighton III - July 15th
#1
Posted 12 June 2006 - 12:17 AM
As the other pirate thread is a bit jumbled with various dates and times etc... I thought I would make a newer more concise one. so....
Firstly Whats all this Pirate Malarky about?
well...
Tim is probably the wrong person to ask about the pirate meets, or indeed any meets in brighton as he normally drinks a bottle of rum and gets outragously drunk. sometimes waking up outside hospitals with no memory of the last 6 hours... However, last year and the year before, a relaxed day of drinking, eating, RAoKing and sunning oneself occurs on the one square of sand on brighton beach.
This is done while dressed as a pirate - I don't know why. But it is fun.
So When is it?
Well this year it will be on Saturday 15th July. With drinks and sweets on friday night at the Barley Mow and fry ups and shakeaways and general hangoverness on the sunday.
Shall we say meet at your most piratical at 13:00 at the mouth of Brighton Pier
But I'm new.... What do I expect?
Well I'll be defending my role of best dressed pirate... can you defeat me and steal my coveted trophy?
There'll be a picnic of lovelyness
There'll be a treasure hunt with thrown in RAoKs in the hunt - and fab dabby dosey prizes for the winners
there'll be general fun... maybe some crazy golf - maybe we'll get moderator Matt Fowler to take on challengers in a dance off.... oooh....
I'd buy a pint to anyone who could defeat that man
and there'll be booze.... lots of booze.....
However, even with all the alcohol this is one of very few meets (it maybe infact be the only meet) where joinees don't end up in a pub. We will be on the beach all day. So feel free to bring any Joinee Spawn - or yourself if you are a wee under 18er.
So old or new come to Brighton - there are hundreds of hostels, hotels, motels and B&Bs but we're talking brighton in July so START BOOKING NOW.
Otherwise I've heard that the beach is ludicrously uncomfortable and cold.....
Hope to see you guys there.

Absolutely not planning to sleep over this year though - which means nobody should presume a supply of foil spaceblankets from me and my sis (for all the precious little good they did last year!).

I'll be (preferably) stealing (a portion of) Maz's mahoosive bed.
I'll be drinking copious amounts of rum.
I'll be kicking Tim's arse at a drunken bout of Super Smash Bros.
I'll be leading a foray back to the crazy golf course on Sunday morning.
I'll be damned.
I'll be coming round the mountain when I come.

I've had an idea...... might be impractical, but i'll give it a go anyway.
Does anyone here play any instruments ?
If so, bring your instrument of choice - be it triangle, tuba, guitar, bass, trombone, violin.
If I can, i'll bring my Flats set of drums with me.
I plan to provide entertainment for the villagers of Brighton.
Hope this doesn't intrude with any plans going on.......

Driving/parking in Brighton is apparently a huge nightmare and I can't imagine you'll enjoy lugging a drumkit around and then trying to set it up / use it on the beach!
To be honest, I'd advise against it. My sis and I took tons of stuff along last year (to allow for sleeping out on the beach, which we did), and it taught me the value of travelling *light* for Brighton!
edit: Also, this is the routine safety nag about inflatable boats on the open sea - please don't require us to call the coastguard out for you!
