A friend of mine, aged just 21, recently lost her Dad and as her parents were no longer together, she was her Dad's next of kin, however she was not entitled to the Bereavement Payment that wifes/ husbands/ partners etc are entitled to, which covers basic funeral costs.
Please could you sign the petition she has started, to change this, she needs 100,000 signatures to get it debated in the house of commons. Below is the link:

So, the Scottish referendum on independence from England has been on the news a lot recently, and I have to say, I really don't have much of a clue what the impact would be for either country if Scotland actually did become independent.

As a result of this, I'm kind of 'meh' about the whole thing - I don't think I mind either way as I am not aware of any real consequences.

The Great British Beer Festival 2012

Once more it tickles my cockles to be able to invite you all, liberally, to get drunky and whimsical at the GREAT BRITISH BEER FESTIVAL

Given the enormous success of our dual-pronged seating attack i see no reason to change what is becoming a traditional awesome comparable to very little else. Let pies, beers, jerky, beers, suasage, beers and beers see you through a triumphant day in London.

As is now tradition i will be arranging the tickets and integrating them with the ones I get. Therefore as always - bring me your money in the Breakfasting Pub which this year - may hold a little surprise. (Plans are afoot)

Once again the key will be to complete the map and to stop Laura from "sampling" all the ciders and then falling over. In addition table football will be played. I will also be announcing to the Taxi Company that they should really "know who i am" and park at the fecking door. If you can't afford to drink/can't drink/can't stand, come anyway - it's awesome to hang out and watch everyone else be merry. There'll be sleeping at ours for the usual crowd and anyone else we can fit in.

And so, the all important details of this beer drinking goliath (an event we are now fully versed in enjoying with gusto ) are;

GREAT BRITISH BEER FESTIVAL
(GBBF Website)
Earl's Court - London
Friday 10th of August
11:00am until Close/Wobblings

As always there is the pre-meet breakfast just around the corner (with booking, breakfast and beer - once again it would help GREATLY if people were on time so that i don't have an embolism, thanks to everyone who achieved this last year and saved me from an early grave). As always, if you wish to bring a knapsack with sandwiches or a cheese buffet for your evening meal then feel free or else sample of the hog lumps and gourmet pies.

As always (i fear i may have used this phrase overly in this post but i frankly don't give a rat's ass), get your names on the list below and i shall do the rest ticket-wise. (And don't be a nob and cancel at the last minute because i take it as a personal insult - see comment above regarding embolism - we will find a way - even if we all have to buy your beers for you at an exorbitant interest rate)

ROLL CALL (as always with the "insert-a-humorous-beer-fest-related-statement-into-your-name" motif but not anything about the FLIPPING olympics <grumble>)

Anyone have a spare phone?

I would like to borrow an old phone. Does anyone I vaguely know have one I can borrow? Preferably one which was on 3?

My mum gave me her old phone (a clunky monstrosity compared to my beautiful iphone R.I.P.) and it was locked to Tesco. So I asked Tesco nicely and they requested an unlock code from Nokia and sent it to me, but it doesn't work. Part of the reason I would like one which was used on 3 and that we know DEFINITELY works on 3, is because if another phone comes up with an error message for me I am likely to throw it at a wall, exceedingly hard. And I would hate to do that to a phone I am only borrowing :S

I will send it back to you once I sort out my ongoing phone issues. I expect to get my money back from the credit card company in roughly 3 months, during which time I should also have saved enough to make up the difference with the credit card refund to buy an ACTUAL replacement iPhone from apple.

So. Anyone??

Things to do in the north east (of americaland)

I want to go to New York for my 30th. Whilst this isn't for a few years yet, I want to have quite a big trip, and do lots of things, which will require a lot of planning and saving (especially as we'll also be getting a bigger house and starting saving for babies too in the next 3 years, so I need a target)

SO, I want some ideas of things to do, to figure out what I need to save. On my list of places is Niagara falls (and possibly Toronto), Boston, New York, and Washington DC. We want to stick to the north east as we'll only have 2 (possibly 3) weeks and I'd rather do one bit of America throroughly than all of it quickly. And we can always go back to the other bits so ideas people, no matter how obscure. Also welcome are ideas on how best to travel and where to stay and what we should definitely eat at least once...

This was going to be where we went for our honeymoon too before we had our string of redundancies, so it will be kind of special and big too in that itll sort of be our honeymoon, only 5 years late

Snow!

It's not something that ever really crosses my mind, as we live in Nottingham where snow never normally sticks.

But this evening we went round to a friends for dinner, only a 20 minute drive away. And it snowed non-stop... We just had to walk home! We borrowed scarves and hats and carrier bags to line our silly non-snow suitable shoes (as we'd driven there we wouldn't need warm clothes would we?) and it took us an hour, with luckily only one slippage on trent bridge on the way. We passed an abandoned bus skewed across both lanes of the road at one point.

The point is, I always think the advice about blankets and shovels and chocolates is for people driving a long way from home, but this was along a main gritted bus-route road and we still couldn't even get out of the parking space with 3 people pushing the car. So, y'know, be prepared and be careful people! I'm at least putting my walking shoes in the boot next time :S

Sssssh Valentines day secretsss

I need help!!!!!!!

I know I know in many many ways , but on this particular occasion I am looking for advice and inspiration. My husband and I have been married for nearly fifteen years!!!! We did however have quite a serious blip, which involved me leaving and moving back to East Anglia for over a year until we realised life wasn't quite the same without each other and the and decided to work our little butts (not so little in my case)to put it back together.

We are now genuinely happier than ever , but like many others we are somewhat skint. we have arranged to go down to Suffolk so our daughter can catch up with her friends in half term which is the week that valentines day falls in.....So the cause of my quest is to ask for inspired ideas of romantic things to do or give which take some effort and not too much monies???????

Ideas please?????

Birmingham Joinees

Hey all,

So, I need some help. Me and Rach (Burns) have applied to be on Only Connect, the BBC4 quiz show.

We did rather well in our application, and have been invited to audition in Birmingham on Sunday the 19th Feb. However, we only have two team members, and need a third. If you fancy it, let me know!

Okay, I'm using the picture above on a card for my brother's birthday next week, and in my fondness for the pic, realized that I don't have a good "line" to use inside the card. Any help? (If it helps any, that's Gordon Banks.)
